💾 ЧТО ПРОИЗОШЛО?
В 2009 году Хауэллс занимался майнингом Bitcoin.
Тогда это было совсем другое время.
Не нужны были огромные фермы ASIC.
Не существовало сегодняшнего рынка.
#Bitcoin стоил ничтожную сумму.
Хауэллс добыл тысячи BTC и сохранил кошелёк на жёстком диске от старого ноутбука.

Сам диск он оставил.
А затем в 2013 году во время уборки выбросил его вместе с мусором.

По словам Хауэллса, его бывшая партнёрша по ошибке вынесла пакет с диском вместе с обычным мусором.
Диск оказался на полигоне Docksway в Ньюпорте, Уэльс.
А внутри, как утверждал Хауэллс, находился Bitcoin-кошелёк с примерно:
8 000 BTC
В 2013 году это уже было огромное состояние.
Но по сравнению с последующей стоимостью Bitcoin сумма стала практически фантастической.
🤯 И НАЧАЛСЯ 12-ЛЕТНИЙ КВЕСТ
Хауэллс не просто махнул рукой.
Он пытался получить разрешение на поиски.
Предлагал технологии сортировки мусора.
Готов был привлечь специалистов.
Предлагал поделиться найденными средствами.
Он даже рассматривал возможность купить сам полигон, чтобы получить доступ к месту предполагаемого захоронения.
Но проблема заключалась не только в деньгах.
Городские власти Ньюпорта выступали против раскопок, ссылаясь в том числе на экологические и юридические ограничения.
В январе 2025 года Высокий суд Великобритании отклонил его требования.
Позже попытка продолжить борьбу через апелляцию также закончилась неудачей.
В итоге многолетняя операция по поиску диска фактически закончилась.
🔐 НО ВОТ ГЛАВНЫЙ УРОК
Bitcoin никуда не исчез.
Вот что важно понимать.
Монеты по-прежнему существуют в блокчейне.
Никто их не украл.
Никто не удалил их из сети.
Проблема в другом.
Для распоряжения BTC необходим приватный ключ.
Нет ключа → нет возможности подписать транзакцию.
То есть можно увидеть монеты на блокчейне…
Но не иметь возможности ими воспользоваться.
И это одна из самых фундаментальных особенностей Bitcoin.
💰 СКОЛЬКО ОН ПОТЕРЯЛ?
Здесь начинается самое безумное.
Речь идёт о 8 000 BTC.
Поэтому стоимость этого кошелька менялась вместе с ценой Bitcoin и в разные моменты оценивалась в сотни миллионов долларов.
Но есть важная оговорка:
‼️Мы не можем доказать, что диск действительно находится именно там, где его ищет Хауэллс.
❗️Мы также не можем независимо подтвердить, что все 8 000 BTC всё ещё контролировались этим конкретным кошельком.

Bitcoin будет существовать.

Но именно для тебя эти монеты могут стать недоступными.
⚠️ ПОЭТОМУ SELF-CUSTODY — ЭТО НЕ ТОЛЬКО «НЕ ВЕРЬ БИРЖЕ»
Это ещё и:
«НЕ ПОТЕРЯЙ СОБСТВЕННЫЙ КЛЮЧ».
Холодный кошелёк без резервной копии — потенциальная точка отказа.
Seed-фраза в телефоне — потенциальная точка отказа.
Фотография seed-фразы в облаке — потенциальная точка отказа.
Одна копия в одном месте — потенциальная точка отказа.
Bitcoin даёт тебе полный контроль над активом.
Но вместе с контролем ты получаешь полную ответственность за доступ к нему.
🔥 И САМОЕ ИНТЕРЕСНОЕ
Хауэллс потерял не Bitcoin.
Он потерял доступ к Bitcoin.
И это принципиально разные вещи.
В традиционном банке потерянный пароль можно восстановить.
В Bitcoin нет кнопки:
«Забыли пароль? Восстановить через SMS».
Если единственный приватный ключ утрачен навсегда —
сеть не знает, что ты настоящий владелец.
И ей всё равно.

Мы привыкли бояться:
