South Korea's National Tax Service says it is preparing detailed crypto tax standards for next month. This came out of a parliamentary audit on 13 Oct 2026 (Bytes Europe, 14 Oct; Yonhap via CoinGabbar, 14 Oct). What is confirmed so far: - Effective date: 1 Jan 2027, after being delayed three times - Rate: 20% national tax plus local tax, so 22% combined - Basic deduction: 2.5 million won per year, with gains and losses netted annually - First returns cover 2027 and are due in May 2028 - It covers income from transferring or lending digital assets, including on overseas exchanges and private wallets when they generate qualifying income What is still open: - Treatment of staking, airdrops, hard forks and DeFi is not settled - Tracking transfers between private wallets is hard, and tax authorities admit data collection is a challenge - No exact date for the November guidance has been set, and it may not answer every question Why it matters: South Korea is one of the most active crypto markets in the world, so tax clarity can change how traders use exchanges, wallets and $BTC and $ETH . Rules may still change, so check official notices before making decisions. This is not tax or financial advice. Tax rules depend on your own situation, so consult a qualified professional. My take: clear tax rules are not bullish or bearish by themselves. The real impact will come from how staking and DeFi are treated in November. Do you think a 22% tax will push traders to other markets, or is clarity better than uncertainty? 👇 #Crypto #SouthKorea #CryptoTax #Bitcoin #Zyverra

🚨₿ Bitcoin just moved one step closer to traditional banking. South Korea’s Jeonbuk Bank has started offering won-denominated loans to corporate clients using Bitcoin as collateral for business working capital. The $BTC is held by a specialized custodian, while the bank does not directly own or control the asset. That’s the bigger signal: Crypto is moving beyond holding and trading into real financial use cases like collateral, credit, payments, and settlement. As digital assets become more connected to traditional finance, wallets are evolving too from places to store assets into gateways for broader financial activity. South Korea blocks 27 unregistered crypto websites. First the apps, now the web. Using a global exchange does not guarantee you can always access it where you live. On October 13, Korean media citing the FIU reported a decision to block domestic access to, or terminate services for, 27 websites operated by unregistered crypto businesses. Platforms named include KuCoin, MEXC, BingX, Phemex and BitMart. This follows restrictions on 17 apps through Google Play in March 2025 and 14 through Apple in April 2025. The crackdown now extends to websites. The issue is serving Korean users without the required local registration. Authorities say the measures aim to protect users and strengthen anti-money-laundering controls. A local access block does not mean these exchanges are shutting down globally. It also does not mean account balances are automatically confiscated. Still, being unable to reach your account is a real headache when you need to manage a position or withdraw funds. The FIU says it will coordinate guidance on withdrawals for affected users. For me, this adds another question when choosing an exchange: can it continue serving users in my country? Low fees and a long coin list are useful. Being able to access your account when you need it matters too. Could Vietnam take a similar approach? That needs a separate look at Vietnamese rules and official decisions. News from Korea alone cannot answer it. Sometimes the risk is losing access while the exchange is still operating elsewhere. 🚨 CRYPTO ALERT! What does the blocking of 27 exchanges in South Korea mean? 🇰🇷📉 South Korea’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has taken drastic measures against unregistered international platforms (KuCoin, MEXC, BingX, Phemex, among others). ⚡ If you’re a trader or follow the global market, here are the 4 key risks you should keep on your radar: 👇 1️⃣ Operational Risk and Access to Funds 🔒 Domain blocking: Local users lose direct access through their ISPs to trade or withdraw funds quickly. Slow processes: Exiting these platforms will require intermediaries and more complex procedures. 2️⃣ Surge in Security Risks ⚠️ Phishing traps: Searching for mirror links or using VPNs increases the risk of landing on fraudulent sites. Migration into the shadows: Traders seeking unregulated alternatives increase their exposure to hacks and scams. 3️⃣ Volatility and Selling Pressure 📊 Panic effect: Liquidations or mass withdrawals at the last minute create temporary volatility in certain trading pairs and network congestion. Hidden fees: Authorities warn that some of these platforms charged withdrawal fees of up to 1.5%–10%, far above the market average. 4️⃣ Global Regulatory Pressure 🌐 This move aims to eradicate money laundering (poor AML/KYC practices) and protect retail investors, setting a precedent for other jurisdictions in Asia. 💬 What do you think? Do you believe this kind of strict regulation benefits the industry in the long run, or does it hinder adoption? ✍️ Leave your opinion in the comments and share this information with your community! 👇#Cryptonews #BinanceSquare #regulations #SouthKorea

Panic effect: Liquidations or mass withdrawals at the last minute create temporary volatility in certain trading pairs and network congestion.
Hidden fees: Authorities warn that some of these platforms charged withdrawal fees of up to 1.5%–10%, far above the market average.
4️⃣ Global Regulatory Pressure 🌐
This move aims to eradicate money laundering (poor AML/KYC practices) and protect retail investors, setting a precedent for other jurisdictions in Asia.
💬 What do you think? Do you believe this kind of strict regulation benefits the industry in the long run, or does it hinder adoption?

South Korea: A bank lends won against $BTC as collateral—a first in the country. The idea isn’t “sell your bitcoins.” It’s the opposite: keep your BTC and borrow local currency against it. 📋 The facts (Edaily, Aju Press, Bloomingbit, Oct. 12, 2026) • Jeonbuk Bank (JB Financial Group): the first Bitcoin-backed won loan in South Korea’s banking sector • Available only to businesses, and the funds can be used only for operating expenses (working capital) • BTC is the only asset accepted: it has the highest trading volume and liquidity, so it’s easier to value and sell • The BTC is held by a specialized custodian; the bank does not hold it • In the event of default: the BTC is sold through a legal process, then the loan is repaid • Interest rate, borrowing limit, and LTV (the share of the BTC’s value you can borrow) have not been disclosed How it works 👇 The bank values the BTC using prices from several global platforms and has tested scenarios involving sharp price drops. If the price falls too far, the collateral no longer covers the loan: that’s the real risk for the borrower. A caveat: this isn’t a retail product. It’s a traditional bank treating BTC as collateral, like land or inventory. 🌍 For Ibrahima, a merchant in Ouagadougou He holds some BTC and needs to pay for an order before receiving payment from his sales. Selling means giving up his position. Borrowing against it means keeping the BTC, but: 1. A 30% drop could require more collateral or trigger a sale 2. Interest keeps accruing even if the market falls 3. Borrow only what you can repay from your income, not what you hope a price increase will cover What about you: borrowing against your crypto—good idea or a trap? 👇 Not financial advice. DYOR. In South Korea, the regulatory debate is evolving. Authorities are considering a more structured licensing regime for digital asset platforms. Discussions also concern the concentration of capital in the hands of major shareholders. Why? Because a crypto platform may manage infrastructure used by millions of people. Its governance therefore becomes an important issue. Who controls the company? Who oversees its activities? What obligations must it meet? And how are users protected? Key takeaway: a platform’s soundness also depends on its governance. Should crypto platforms be subject to requirements comparable to those applied to other financial institutions? #CryptoRegulationBattle #SouthKorea #blockchain #CryptoExchange

“Successful stablecoin payment test” in Korea took place without a named stablecoin. And without any money. Gwangju Bank and Toss ran a proof of concept: paying with a stablecoin via QR code. The details: - a test environment separate from the live service - a virtual store - no customer data or real assets - no launch date Essentially, they tested the flow: bank app → Toss → QR code on a Toss Place terminal, with payment and settlement completed at the moment of transfer. Next comes a second phase, and they’re hoping to reach an agreement with real stores. But there’s still no law. The FSC chair says the framework is ready and final consultations are underway, but they haven’t decided who can issue a won-denominated stablecoin. Review is expected in November. They showed the button. There’s nothing to pay with yet. Would you pay with a stablecoin at the checkout if your bank offered that button, or is paying by card easier? #SouthKorea #Stablecoins

everyone thinks korea is just a retail casino that pumps whatever is trending, but actually moonpay just gave us a case study in how real adoption gets wired in while traders are looking the other way. the pain is always the same. you miss the infrastructure news, you miss the entry, then you fomo when $BTC volume from that region finally shows up on the tape. moonpay is making south korea their official asia hub and they are plugging their global crypto and stablecoin tech directly into woori, kb, and kakaobank. that means cheaper faster cross-border transfers, payments for students and expats, and overseas business that does not get eaten by fees. this is not a press release to ignore. ngl ser this is how $USDT and $USDC stop being exchange chips and start being actual money in a market that already knows how to trade. the common mistake is treating bank integrations like background noise. people did it before in other hubs and then wondered why they were late to the next wave of demand. anyone else seeing this as the kind of plumbing that actually moves flows, or we waiting until its already obvious? #crypto #SouthKorea #onramps

Korean Crypto Exchanges’ First-Half Profits Plunge 78%, What Signals Lie Behind a Shrinking Trading Market According to Cointelegraph, in the first half of 2026, the operating profit of South Korean crypto exchanges fell 78% year over year, mainly due to declines in trading volume and market capitalization scale. This data is not an isolated case. As an important retail crypto market in Asia, South Korea’s exchange profitability depends heavily on the activity level of spot and derivatives trading. A sharp contraction in profits may reflect a drop in retail participation, capital flowing out to other regional markets, or a wait-and-see sentiment driven by changes in regulatory expectations. It’s also worth noting that South Korea has recently been advancing new rules related to tokenized securities. If the new regulations are implemented, they could provide a compliant entry channel for institutional capital, potentially improving exchanges’ revenue structure in the medium term. However, the current profit data only covers the first half, so it’s not possible to confirm whether a turnaround has already occurred in the second half. In terms of market reaction, token or related concept stocks of local exchanges in South Korea may face short-term sentiment pressure. But more importantly, the key to watch is whether trading volume can recover alongside expectations for the new rules. If trading volume remains sluggish, even if tokenization brings incremental benefits, it may be difficult to quickly reverse the overall trend of falling profitability. Next, what’s worth monitoring is: the timing for when South Korea’s financial regulators will release the specific implementation details for tokenized securities, and whether the main exchanges show signs of a month-over-month rebound in trading volume. If the rollout pace of the new rules is faster than expected, the market may reassess Asia’s structural opportunities in crypto. #CryptoMarket #SouthKorea The above is information compilation and personal analysis and does not constitute investment advice.
