📅 BNB Chain has a date.
The Pasteur hard fork goes live on August 25, 02:30 UTC — every node operator needs to be on client v1.7.7 before then.

⚙️ WHAT'S ACTUALLY CHANGING
This isn't a routine version bump. Three BEPs, bundled under BEP-673:
▪️ BEP-682 — Closes a bridge validation gap. Right now, a manipulated validator set could count the same validator multiple times to fake a quorum on cross-chain transfers. Pasteur rejects duplicate entries outright.
▪️ BEP-695 — Fixes a governance loophole where a validator could dodge removal penalties just by rotating their signing key. Pasteur makes penalties stick across key changes.
▪️ BEP-675 — The throughput piece. Eliminates duplicate transaction execution between block builders and validators. In testnet runs, this pushed TPS from 1,237 to 2,324 — an 88% jump — without touching the 100M gas limit or the 450ms block time.
That last point matters: BNB Chain is proving it can scale capacity from the existing block structure, not just by cranking up hardware requirements.

🧪 IT'S ALREADY BEEN TESTED
This isn't going in blind. The Chapel testnet ran a version of Pasteur (v1.7.6) starting July 21 — nearly five weeks of live data before mainnet activation. The mainnet version bumping to v1.7.7 suggests the testnet run surfaced refinements that got folded in before go-live.

📈 THE BIGGER PICTURE
Pasteur is one step in BNB Chain's stated H2 2026 goal: double mainnet throughput, with a longer-term 10x scaling target. It follows January's Fermi hard fork, which already brought block time down to 450ms.
BNB is trading around $610, sitting just below the $621-622 zone where the 200-day moving average and upper Bollinger Band have converged — a level that's rejected recovery attempts before. Whether Pasteur's throughput story gives buyers enough conviction to clear it is the real test.
