🧑 ETHEREUM INSTITUTIONAL BACKS PLAN TO CUT BLOCK TIMES FROM 12 TO 10 SECONDS

Ethereum Institutional has backed Ethlabs’ push to make Ethereum faster, supporting EIP-8198, also known as “Quick Slots.”

The proposal would initially reduce Ethereum’s block time from 12 seconds to 10 seconds, shortening transaction confirmation times and making onchain markets more responsive. Ethlabs also wants the protocol to support further block-time reductions through a configurable parameter rather than requiring another major upgrade.

EIP-8198 was proposed for inclusion in Ethereum’s upcoming Hegotá upgrade, but it remains under consideration and still requires implementation and testing.

The push comes as Ethereum faces growing competition from faster networks and more institutional activity moving onchain.
