Firedancer: burning 1 SOL is a condition for qualifying for a bug bounty
Firedancer is an independent validator client for Solana. In an article published on October 16, Jump explained the cost of reviewing a large volume of submissions to its security program.
The terms consulted on October 27, in the version effective since October 26, require burning 1 SOL per report to be eligible for a reward. That date identifies the document version, not when the requirement first appeared.
The burn is irreversible and non-refundable, even if the report is invalid, a duplicate, or out of scope. A report submitted without a burn may be reviewed at the team's discretion, but is not eligible for a reward.
Accepted payouts are made in USDC and require identity verification. Until November 20, there are incentives of 2x the standard payout, or 3x for specific Alpenglow findings, subject to eligibility and evaluation. The temporary incentive does not mean the program ends on that date.
These conditions apply to the Firedancer program; they are not a rule for all Solana security reports.
Market data: On October 27 at 19:56 UTC, SOL was trading at 101.16 USDT on Binance Spot, up 0.577% over 24 hours.
Market analysis: The filter may reduce noise, but it also imposes a cost on legitimate researchers. Burning SOL does not guarantee payment. Without data on the program's scale, it is also impossible to infer a meaningful effect on SOL's supply or price.
