🇬🇧 I think the headline about the UK’s 240 crypto millionaires misses the bigger story.
Yes, 240 people reported more than £1 million each in crypto capital gains during the 2024–2025 tax year.
Together, they reported around £717 million ($975M) in gains.
But zoom out.
A total of 17,600 people reported taxable crypto gains, adding up to roughly £1.38 billion overall.
So crypto wealth is no longer something happening quietly on the edge of the financial system.
It is becoming visible in official government data.
And that changes the game.
For years, many investors treated crypto as a market operating outside the traditional financial system.
But profits eventually meet the real world.
Taxes. Reporting. Compliance.
The UK has already begun implementing the OECD's Cryptoasset Reporting Framework, and HMRC is expected to start receiving customer data from crypto service providers in 2027.
That’s the part I’m watching.
The next phase of crypto adoption might not just be about how much wealth the market creates.
It could be about how efficiently governments learn to track it.
240 crypto millionaires made the headlines.
But the real story may be that crypto is becoming too large to remain financially invisible.
