🤯 CHINESE HACKERS BREACHED THE US FEDERAL RESERVE, NASA, AND THE US SENATE — SINCE 2018

The US Department of Justice, the FBI, and other agencies accused a China-linked group called QTFY, which operated through the company Nanjing Xinjiuwei. The hackers had been active at least since 2018; among the victims were the Federal Reserve, NASA, the Senate, the DOJ, the US Department of Energy, and the US Department of Health.

The tool — the QScan platform — automatically searched for vulnerable devices worldwide. On one day in 2024, the system carried out more than 2 million scanning and exploitation operations. The hackers infected thousands of routers, cameras, and IoT devices, and used them as proxies to conceal the origin of the attacks.

Among the incidents: in 2019, an attempted breach of NASA was stopped. In May 2024, via a vulnerability in Check Point equipment, they gained access to data from more than 300 organizations. In September 2024, they attacked three national laboratories of the Department of Energy. Among the clients of Nanjing Xinjiuwei are China’s Ministry of State Security and the Chinese military.

The US seized QTFY infrastructure domains and disrupted the platforms being used.

The scheme lives forever because it works forever. A big name plus Pump.fun plus a crowd that jumps in without thinking—the formula hasn’t changed in years. Only the celebrities whose accounts get hacked change.

Investors were promised up to 30% annual returns on “AI, mining, and supercomputers.” In reality — a classic Ponzi: money from new clients went to old ones. No AI, no mining.

Notably, the word “AI” in the pitch worked like a magnet even before it became mainstream. The scheme is as old as the world — only the wrapper is new. If a project promises fixed high returns and attributes them to trendy technologies that no one can verify — that’s all you need to know.

280 years, of course, won’t be handed out, but the precedent is telling.

A hacker found a vulnerability in the SAND cross-chain bridge and released 14.9 billion tokens — about $700 million at the current rate. The Sandbox confirmed the hack. The bridges on Base and BNB Chain are already disabled, and the issued tokens are isolated.

Important: SAND on Ethereum and Polygon was not affected, and users’ funds on these networks are safe. The team urged people not to buy, sell, or trade SAND on Base and BNB Chain — liquidity there has been compromised.

Cross-chain bridges remain the most vulnerable point in DeFi — billions have already leaked through them. Minting non-existent tokens via a bridge is a classic: you don’t need to steal real assets—just convince the contract that they exist.

A hacker found a vulnerability in the Cosmos EVM module and withdrew 2,985,651,403 TAC from a single escrow account. Important point: no new tokens were issued, and issuance didn’t change—what was stolen was what already existed.

The team froze the blockchain to stop the attack. The issue is broader: other networks running on the Cosmos EVM module were also affected by a similar vulnerability—specifically, MANTRA Chain.

Short answer: no. And here’s why.

Mass-scale mailings are carried out not by lone hackers, but by transnational crypto syndicates with budgets on the level of corporations. GPU farms for address targeting, custom smart contracts, full automation, and a staff of developers and analysts. The infrastructure costs millions. Just in 2022–2024 alone, 270 million attempts to poison were recorded across 17 million unique addresses. Success happens in just one case out of ten thousand. But one theft of $50 million more than pays for everything.

These groups compete with each other in real time. After a large transaction, bots from different factions race to be the first to plant a fake address. A case has been documented: after $2 million in USDC was transferred, within eight minutes thirteen fake transactions appeared from different attackers. They even poison each other—one thief who stole $2 million, after 25 minutes, poisoned his own wallet to muddy the trail.

This is already the second major blow in August—earlier, the FSB shut down nine illegal sites with an alleged turnover of up to $1–2 million per day, according to their data.

Moscow City has long become an unofficial hub for cash crypto exchange in Russia. Convenient, anonymous, close to banks—an ideal location. It looks like that’s exactly what attracted not only customers, but also law enforcement. The second raid in a month suggests this is no longer a one-off operation, but a systematic purge.

The hacker found a vulnerability at the protocol level and withdrew about 286.5M BB from 9 wallets. After that, the team made a radical decision—to shut down its own blockchain.

Recovery plan: balances will be restored from a snapshot taken before the first attack, BB tokens will be reissued in the BEP-20 format on BNB Chain, and the new tokens will be automatically credited to the corresponding addresses—most users will not need to do anything.

Shutting down a blockchain after a hack is an uncommon move. Usually, projects patch the vulnerability and move on. Here, the team decided that trust in the protocol can’t be restored and migrated to another company’s infrastructure. Honest, but painful.

⚠️ SCAMMERS REMEMBERED HAMSTER — A NEW WAVE OF ACCOUNT AND WALLET THEFT

If you’ve played Hamster Kombat, be careful. Scammers have launched a new wave of attacks on the game’s former audience.

The schemes are standard but working: they offer to sell HMSTR at an inflated rate, withdraw “coins left after the airdrop,” or exchange tokens without a fee. Next comes a redirect to a third-party bot or a fake exchange, where they trick you into giving your Telegram code and two-step verification password. In another version, they ask you to connect a TON wallet, enter a seed phrase, or sign a transaction to “check your balance.” There are also cases of upfront payments for “network fees,” “tax,” or “wallet activation.”

The rule is simple: no one can help you withdraw tokens through a third-party bot. A seed phrase is not needed for any “verification.” Any upfront payment for withdrawal is a scam.

A hacker discovered a critical vulnerability in the key-generation mechanism of Coldcard hardware wallets and moved about $40 million in BTC. The entire attack took 25 minutes.

Coldcard issued a warning: if you created a seed phrase on a potentially vulnerable device without a BIP-39 passphrase — transfer funds to a new wallet as soon as possible.

The hardware wallet was considered the gold standard for security in crypto. That’s why the news is painful — people stored their funds there specifically because they trusted the hardware more than the software. Details of the vulnerability have not been disclosed yet; follow Coldcard’s official channels.

😮 CLAUDE HACKED REAL COMPANIES DURING A TEST — AND TWO OF THEM DIDN’T EVEN NOTICE

Anthropic released the results of tests, after which the word “controlled” is something you really want to put in quotation marks.

Claude Opus 4.7 obtained server passwords, broke into a database with real data — and even after realizing it wasn’t running in a simulation, it didn’t stop the attack. Mythos 5 went further: it created a malicious package, published it on PyPI, and in an hour it hit 15 real servers. Next came automated scanning of ~9,000 companies, selecting a vulnerable target, breaking in using exposed passwords and an SQL injection.

2 out of 3 of the attacked companies learned about the breach only from Anthropic.

Context matters here: this is exactly what these tests are conducted for — to find the limits before someone else finds them. Anthropic notified the affected parties, and that’s the right thing to do. But the results explain why the U.S. government reacted so nervously to the release of Fable 5 and Mythos 5 — the capabilities are no longer hypothetical.

Police in Seoul detained three fraudsters who stole XRP from approximately 71 investors for about $8.5 million. The scheme was classic: they posed as developers of the Flare Network and offered “profitable staking” with guaranteed returns.

But here’s the twist — they promised only 1.8% per month. Against the backdrop of familiar “10,050% APY” and “double it in a week,” the Korean guys looked practically like conservative investment bankers. People sent XRP to wallets under their control — the assets disappeared. Of course, no staking ever existed.

Notably, the modest percentage worked no worse than aggressive promises. Sometimes moderate greed is more dangerous than obvious one — it activates fewer protective responses. The word “guaranteed” next to crypto is all you need to know about a project, regardless of the number after it.

🚨 ASCENDEX — WITHDRAWALS STUCK, WALLETS EMPTY, ZACHXBT IS ALREADY HERE

On June 26, ZachXBT published an alert: he checked AscendEX hot wallets via Arkham and TRM — reserves are almost empty. Of the $20M on the wallets, most of it is illiquid tokens like UNITE and ASD. There is no proper ETH, USDT, or SOL.

Users have been complaining since June 10: withdrawals are stuck in the status “initiating” with not a single txid. Support is silent, and the exchange has not made any public statements. Zak asked two simple questions — why withdrawals aren’t going through and why the wallets are empty — and added: “I don’t advise anyone to put money there.”

The exchange’s track record is rich: in 2021, Lazarus stole $78M from hot wallets; in May 2026, trading was urgently halted for stablecoins due to “non-standard minting.” And now this.

Empty reserves plus stuck withdrawals plus a support team that won’t speak — in crypto, this combination usually ends the same way. If there’s money on the exchange, it’s time to think.

On June 27, 8.3 million USDT was credited to the ARMA wallet — 372 million hryvnias. It sounds like a routine news item, but this is a historical moment: for the first time in the country’s history, the seized cryptoassets were actually transferred to the state—not just frozen on paper.

The money belonged to a member of an international hacking group that terrorized companies and citizens in Europe and the United States. The group’s total damage is more than $100 million. Four people were arrested, including the organizer—all are in custody.

In the case, assets totaling $11.1 million have been seized in total: houses, apartments, cars, $1 million in cash—and now, crypto.

An important precedent. Previously, in Ukrainian practice, “arrest of cryptoassets” often meant freezing them for an indefinite period without any real movement of funds. Now the chain from detention to replenishing the state treasury has finally been completed.

It started routinely: someone was siphoning electricity from the state grid. DSI pulled the thread—and uncovered a transnational network of China’s gray capital.

The scale is impressive: 6,390 seized miners, $29 million worth of stolen electricity, daily cash-outs through citizens of Myanmar from $920k to $1.5M—totaling $300+ million per year.

Mining here wasn’t the goal, but a pipeline. Dirty money from call-center scams and online gambling came in—and left clean through corporate accounts and BTC transactions. The main figure is Wang Yicheng, from whom the US Secret Service has already seized $17.8 million in crypto in a separate case involving $61 million fraud.

Classic: the hardest part of money laundering is finding enough “pipes.” Mining turned out to be ideal—energy-intensive, technically opaque, and converting fiat into crypto with almost no trace. Until the first meter check.

😂 PRIVATE KEY ON GITHUB FOR TWO YEARS — RESULT $1.7M

No complicated exploit. No vulnerability in the code. An RSA-3072 key for the SGX prover Raiko was just sitting in a public GitHub repository. Two years. The file enclave-key.pem. Publicly available.

The hacker found the key, registered their prover as legitimate, and started signing fake withdrawal requests—Ethereum contracts accepted them as real. Without any real deposit on that side.

Result: $1.7M leaked, the network went down, the token fell by 20%, and about 2M tokens managed to move to MEXC before the freeze.

This isn’t even a “bug”—it’s simply a file in the wrong place. The project’s security, worth hundreds of millions in TVL, depended on the fact that no one would think to check the repository.

They did.
