IMF Suddenly Releases $138 Million! Did El Salvador “Buy BTC” Get an Exemption? Big news! IMF Suddenly Releases $138 Million! Did El Salvador “Buy BTC” Get an Exemption?

Big news!

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has completed the second and third reviews of El Salvador’s financing program, approving an immediate disbursement of about $138 million.

What’s even more noteworthy is that

₿ El Salvador previously did not meet the conditions related to accumulating Bitcoin, but the IMF has granted an exemption this time!

So what does this mean?

BTC is once again in the spotlight of the international financial system!

El Salvador previously drew global attention for its Bitcoin policy. Now, after completing the reviews, the IMF has chosen to release the funds—while also acknowledging that some of the newly added BTC came from documented private donations.

However, there’s one key detail to keep in mind:

This is not the IMF approving El Salvador to keep using public funds to buy BTC indefinitely.

In its latest documents, the IMF clearly states that going forward, it no longer expects El Salvador to continue increasing its Bitcoin holdings unless those holdings come from already recorded donations. At the same time, El Salvador still needs to further reduce the government’s involvement in Bitcoin-related activities. (IMF)

So what’s truly worth watching this time isn’t simply “the IMF supports buying BTC,” but rather:

A Bitcoin country that was once highly controversial is now searching for a new balance with the traditional international financial system.

If, in the future, more countries begin to include BTC in discussions about national asset allocation,
will Bitcoin’s financial attributes open up even more room for imagination?

The IMF unlocks ~US$138 million for El Salvador. Public Bitcoin remains under constraint. On October 1, 2026, the IMF Executive Board concluded the IMF’s 2nd and 3rd reviews of the EFF program (PR 26/316). Immediate disbursement: SDR 101.96 million (about US$138 million). The 40-month arrangement, approved on February 26, 2025, provides total access of SDR 1,033.92 million (about US$1.4 billion). FACTS (IMF): • Performance criteria were not met, including the one on Bitcoin accumulation. Waivers were granted after corrective measures and renewed commitments. • Recent additions of BTC have been documented as private donations, with no public funds. • Most of Chivo’s ownership and control was transferred to a private operator. The remaining residual public exposure must be fully unwound. • No new public Bitcoin accumulation is planned beyond the documented donations. • Objective: strengthen transparency of public crypto holdings and the regulatory framework (including the Digital Asset Issuance Law). INTERPRETATION: This is not a green light to buy back $BTC from the state. It is rather a conditional endorsement: the program continues, but the official trajectory is to reduce the public role in Bitcoin and Chivo, not expand it. SCENARIOS: • Base case: disbursement absorbed, discipline on documented donations, Chivo unwind continues • Tightening: next reviews more strict if crypto commitments slip • Market noise: reading “waiver = bullish BTC” is possible, but the IMF text says the opposite on public accumulation Sources: IMF PR 26/316 (public transcripts) · Katz statement (First Deputy MD). BTC cash figure not reproduced here due to lack of confirmation in this run. Does the waiver really change the state’s Bitcoin policy—or only the program timeline? #Bitcoin #IMF #Crypto

The IMF just released $139M to El Salvador, after formally waiving the country's breach of its Bitcoin limit. The board completed the second and third reviews of the $1.4B loan program on Oct 1. It acknowledged that El Salvador's Bitcoin holdings grew beyond the agreed cap, then forgave it. The IMF's explanation: the extra $BTC came from private donations, not public funds. Its stated expectation is that there will be no further accumulation beyond those documented donations. The awkward part: El Salvador's own Bitcoin tracker shows holdings around 7,787 BTC, with about 31 BTC added in the last 30 days and 8 in the past week. The donors haven't been publicly identified. So either the donations keep coming at roughly a coin a day, or the "no further accumulation" line is already being tested. The fair read: this isn't a pro-Bitcoin pivot by the IMF. The $139M goes to El Salvador's treasury, not into Bitcoin. Control of the Chivo wallet has been handed to a private operator. And the IMF recorded the breach before forgiving it, which makes the cap stricter on paper, not looser. When a sovereign Bitcoin stack keeps growing through anonymous "donations," is that a clever workaround, or a loophole the IMF chose not to look at? #ElSalvador #IMF

🚨 IMF Approves Nearly $140 Million in Funding for El Salvador! Bitcoin Holding Violations Are Waived, and El Salvador’s BTC Treasury Policy Draws Renewed Attention 🔥 Group: [点击进入玖玖短线策略群](https://app.binance.com/uni-qr/SC8V8G2r) El Salvador’s Bitcoin story is taking another twist worth watching. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) previously reached an agreement with El Salvador on a 40-month extended fund facility arrangement. In September 2026, IMF staff agreed with the El Salvador government on the second and third reviews. After the IMF Executive Board approves the relevant arrangements, El Salvador will receive roughly $140 million in funding. But what really has the market’s attention is the Bitcoin clause. 📌 The IMF had indeed set conditions regarding El Salvador’s accumulation of Bitcoin in the public sector. The document from the first review in 2025 showed that El Salvador had previously made a slight deviation from the Bitcoin-related conditions and requested a waiver from the IMF. The IMF document also clearly required El Salvador to control Bitcoin risks in the public sector and to limit voluntary increases in public-sector BTC holdings. However, here is a very important detail: This does not mean the IMF has fully relaxed and allowed El Salvador to continue buying large amounts of Bitcoin. 🔥 On the contrary, in its latest review in September 2026, the IMF stated that the previously observed increase in Bitcoin holdings was proven to have come from private donations, not public funds. It also emphasized that there will be no further accumulation of Bitcoin beyond these already recorded donations in the future. In other words, the IMF is not simply saying, “Let El Salvador buy BTC however it wants.” Instead, within the existing loan framework, it continues to stress risk control, transparency, and public-sector holdings management. And this is the truly interesting part for the BTC market. 👀 El Salvador was the first country in the world to incorporate Bitcoin into its legal tender framework. The IMF Executive Board completed the second and third reviews of El Salvador’s 40-month Extended Fund Facility, allowing an immediate disbursement of SDR 101.96 million, worth approximately $138 million. The broader program provides access to about $1.4 billion. The Fund granted waivers after certain performance criteria were missed, including one related to Bitcoin accumulation. The IMF said corrective measures and renewed commitments supported the decision. It also stated that no further Bitcoin accumulation is envisaged beyond documented donations. The review highlighted stronger-than-expected economic activity, improved security, rising investor confidence, fiscal consolidation and stronger reserve and liquidity buffers. It also noted progress toward transferring majority ownership and control of the state-run Chivo wallet to a private operator. My take: This is not an IMF endorsement of unlimited government Bitcoin purchases. It is a conditional financing decision that simultaneously keeps the program alive and pushes El Salvador to reduce direct state involvement in Bitcoin-related activities. 📰 IMF still approved lending to El Salvador this time: the Executive Board completed the second and third reviews of the $1.4 billion Extended Fund Facility arrangement, approving the immediate disbursement of $139 million. 🔥 The point of contention remains Bitcoin. El Salvador did not fully meet some of the planned benchmarks, including those related to Bitcoin holdings. Previously, the government was deemed to have violated conditions restricting further accumulation of Bitcoin, but after taking corrective measures and re-committing, the IMF ultimately granted a waiver. There’s also a key detail here: documents submitted by El Salvador show that the additional Bitcoin added after the first review came from private donations, not public funds. This adds an extra layer of nuance to the claim that the government continues to use public finances to buy coins. 💡 The IMF also acknowledges that El Salvador’s economic performance is better than expected, citing improvements in security and increased investor confidence. The country has also made progress in anti-money laundering, fiscal transparency, and transferring the majority ownership and control of the state-run digital wallet Chivo to private operators. 🤔 Honestly, this seems more like both sides continuing to negotiate conditions rather than the IMF’s sudden change of stance on Bitcoin. Do you think El Salvador will keep expanding its state-level BTC holdings in the future? #萨尔瓦多 #IMF #BTC #Bitcoin adoption

More BTC Added to El Salvador: Over 1,500 Coins. The IMF Says, “Not Purchased with Public Funds”—Who Should You Believe First on the Data? IMF’s latest confirmation: all BTC El Salvador added since June 2025 came from “private donations,” with no use of public money. Once this hit the news, the “compliance” narrative suddenly fell into place—and the next loan of about $140 million was also unlocked. But for anyone working with data, this statement is worth questioning first. On-chain, you can see the BTC balances of wallets related to El Salvador increasing (roughly 6,224 → 7,764 coins, adding about 1,540). However, “balances are increasing” and “public funds were used to buy” are two different things. The IMF accepted the “donation” explanation—but it hasn’t disclosed how many transactions were donated, who the donors are, or any details to date. This is like a “market-friendly” conclusion that still lacks three verifiable points on the data side: the increment, the timing, and the source. The biggest taboo in research is having the conclusion come before the data. The first thing I do with financial data is to lock down the methodology—clearly specify the source, the time, and the field definitions—before drawing any conclusions. My view: I won’t simply treat “the IMF says it wasn’t public funding” as a straightforward positive. What it truly affects is the sustainability of the sovereign BTC reserve narrative. What to watch is whether future increments continue, whether donors disclose themselves, and whether this interpretation will be used repeatedly to “regularize” the story. Look at these three points in the data first, then discuss what it means for price. When you see an “official interpretation” clash with on-chain data, which do you believe? Let’s talk in the comments. #IMF #萨尔瓦多 #数据 #量化 #data-controller
