How Does Proof of Work Reach Agreement? ⛏️🔗
Proof of Work (PoW) uses computational work to help a blockchain agree on which block should be added next.
How it works:
1️⃣ Transactions are collected
Nodes verify transactions and eligible ones are selected for a candidate block.
2️⃣ A miner builds the block
The block contains transactions, a previous block reference, and a nonce.
3️⃣ Mining begins
The miner repeatedly changes the nonce and calculates the block's hash until it meets the network's difficulty requirement.
4️⃣ A valid block is found
The miner broadcasts the block to the network.
5️⃣ Nodes verify it
Other nodes quickly check the transactions, previous block reference, Proof of Work, and protocol rules.
6️⃣ The chain moves forward
If accepted, nodes update their blockchain state and continue to the next block.

Finding a valid block = computationally expensive
Verifying it = comparatively easy
PoW combines computational work + cryptographic verification + network rules to help a decentralized blockchain maintain a consistent history.
