Aptos turns 4 with the team and investor unlocks finished

Aptos posted its 4th birthday today. The bigger gift already landed this month: the four-year lockup for core contributors and investors is done. That was 324.78M $APT , about 32% of the 1B genesis supply.
Scheduled monthly unlocks drop from about 11.31M to about 4.54M APT, roughly 60% less. APT is around $0.77, down 4.3% today. The chart didn't get the memo yet.

📊 Gas fees up 10x, but transaction volume doubled? Aptos has done the math

In February–March this year, APT holders voted to approve a major overhaul of the tokenomics:

🔹 Gas fees increased 10x
🔹 Staking rewards cut to 2.6%
🔹 Total supply capped at 2.1 billion APT
🔹 210 million APT permanently locked

The result: Since May, Aptos's "Token Holder Net Income" has been positive—and has stayed that way. By the same metric, Ethereum and Sui are still in the red.

The counterintuitive part is that despite the fee hike, daily transactions doubled to around 9 million, mainly driven by on-chain trading platforms like Decibel Trade. The staking rate has also held steady at around 64%—lower rewards haven't led to an exodus. And investor unlocks are wrapping up this month.

My take: The longstanding problem with many public blockchains is that they "buy security by issuing more tokens." Inflationary rewards dilute holders. Aptos has taken the opposite approach: make users pay, issue fewer tokens, and get the books into the black. But this model depends on strong demand. The fact that a 10x fee increase hasn't driven users away suggests at least some of the activity is essential. The real test will come when on-chain trading cools off.

Echo Protocol is shutting down. Of the $878 million in TVL at its peak, $10,675,477 remains

On October 19, the protocol on Aptos announced it was winding down: deposits, new loans, and staking have already been halted

If you have money there, there are two dates, not one:
— November 14 — the last day to repay your loan; after that, your collateral will be liquidated
— November 19, 23:59 UTC — withdraw, repay, and unstake everything else

Many posts mention only the second date, but that’s already too late to help borrowers

aBTC can still be swapped via the Aptos-B2 bridge after the shutdown, so aBTC holders have less urgency

A tip from me: fake “refund” links pop up after news like this. Don’t sign anything from links sent by strangers

$APT I came across a deadline that had been four years in the making and arrived almost unnoticed amid all this week’s macro events.
On October 12, exactly on the fourth anniversary of the network’s launch, Aptos completed the four-year vesting period for core contributors (190 million APT) and early investors (134.78 million APT)—a total of 324.78 million tokens, or 32.5% of the entire genesis supply of 1 billion APT. The final tranche was released on September 12, and October 12 officially brought the whole cycle to a close.
The result: scheduled monthly unlocks are falling from 11.31 million to 4.54 million APT—approximately 60%. From here on, only the Community and Foundation pools will continue unlocking, on separate ten-year schedules through 2032.
Notably, on that very day Aptos launched an encrypted mempool built in to prevent front-running—the timing was evidently no coincidence.
Meanwhile, APT’s price slipped below $0.80. Important: the end of the vesting period does not prove that early investors were the ones selling—the schedules coincided, but that’s correlation, not a proven cause.
Bottom line: a 60% reduction in supply pressure is a structurally positive change for the token, even if the price moves in the opposite direction in the short term.
