On August 26, 2026, StarkWare researcher Avihu Levy's Quantum-Safe Bitcoin (QSB) method became the first quantum-safe transaction ever mined on Bitcoin mainnet (via MARA Pool's Slipstream), proving Bitcoin can be protected from quantum attacks without a soft fork - it uses signature grinding / Binohash to create a valid signature without a private key by brute-forcing a hash, so security relies on hash functions which Shor's algorithm can't break, unlike Bitcoin's elliptic-curve crypto; it's currently expensive ($100s, hours of compute) and non-standard so it needs direct miner submission, but it lets holders move coins into a hash-locked output a quantum computer cannot open.
