The recent KSTR price movement has very valuable reference meaning from a contract/futures perspective. The 24-hour price increase is 4.3%, and the price has reached 25.95. However, what is truly worth noticing is not how much it has risen, but the funding rate.
The current funding rate is positive: 0.00088386. As the price rises, longs pay shorts, which indicates that the momentum chasing sentiment is still accelerating and that long positions are getting crowded. Coupled with OI being at around 52,600, it’s not extreme, but it has already moved out of the quiet/low-activity zone. When you have the combination of “price up + positive funding rate + rising OI,” it often means costs are accumulating. Longs have to pay money once every so often. The profits from the rally get partially eaten by the funding, and if the price stalls, the patience of long holders can break down quickly.
My current judgment is that the short-term structure here is rather fragile. Yes, it’s really going up, but not everyone will be able to hold it comfortably. If the next few hourly candles show increased volume but the price doesn’t move, or if it pulls back, then it can basically be confirmed that longs are distributing/selling. My own approach is not to chase longs at this level; instead, I wait for a 15-minute timeframe bearish (red) candle with strong volume, then observe whether short positions follow through before deciding whether to go short for a scalp.
A 4% move isn’t small, but under a positive funding structure, the long-vs-short risk-reward for shorts is shifting in a favorable direction.
