🇬🇭 Pay a supplier in China from Accra… in stablecoin, but through your bank? That’s the project announced in Ghana. 📌 The facts (20 October 2026) • Stanbic Bank Ghana and RD Technologies (Hong Kong) are studying a system for settling commercial payments Ghana → Asia based on stablecoin technology • Target: business-to-business payments (Ghanaian importers to Asian suppliers) • The bank keeps the customer relationship: account opening, KYC (identity verification), payment validation, settlement in cedi • RD Technologies provides the crypto infrastructure and its settlement network in Asia • Not launched yet: it first needs a “no-objection” (green light) from regulators, then tests and a controlled pilot 🔍 Why does it matter? Today, a transfer from Accra → Guangzhou often passes through several intermediary banks (correspondent banks), often in dollars. Each step takes time, costs money, and makes tracking unclear. A stablecoin (a token that tracks the value of a currency like the dollar) can make the journey in a single step, 24/7. ⚖️ Nuance • The stablecoin used has not been specified • No fee or timing figures have been announced • This is not a service for individuals, nor a launch date 👤 Akosua (fictional character) imports motorcycle parts to Kumasi. If the pilot goes ahead, she would still pay from her bank account in cedis, without handling crypto herself. The blockchain would work behind the scenes. 💡 The real change: crypto entering the bank, instead of staying informal. 💬 Would you rather pay your foreign suppliers 🏦 through the bank or 📱 directly in stablecoin? 👇 Not financial advice. 🇬🇭 A major Ghanaian bank wants to pay its clients’ Asian suppliers… using stablecoin technology. Without the importer ever touching crypto. 📌 The facts (Oct. 20, 2026) • Stanbic Bank Ghana and RD Technologies (Hong Kong) are exploring a “bank-led” cross-border trade settlement system • Target: B2B payments from Ghanaian businesses to their suppliers in Asia • The bank keeps the client relationship: account opening, KYC, approval, settlement in cedis • RD Technologies provides the digital asset infrastructure and its settlement network in Asia • Next steps: discussions with the regulator, technical testing, then a controlled pilot, subject to no objection 🧠 How it works Today, a payment from Accra to Guangzhou passes through several intermediary banks: delays, fees, and unclear tracking. 🌍 Sending money from Ghana to Nigeria as easily as using mobile money? The Bank of Ghana is testing just that right now, with stablecoins in its toolkit. Abena sells wax-print fabric in Kumasi and pays her supplier in Lagos. Today, it’s either an expensive bank transfer or an informal intermediary. Her question: “What will this change for me?” 📌 The facts (BoG, Oct. 13, 2026, IMF–World Bank meetings in Bangkok) • Two pilot corridors: Ghana–Rwanda and Ghana–Nigeria. • Tools being tested: central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), stablecoins, bank accounts and mobile money wallets. • The pan-African PAPSS system already covers mobile wallets on the Ghana–Nigeria corridor. • Governor Asiama’s goal: move to live service by building on what already exists, rather than creating new systems. 🧠 How it works PAPSS (backed by Afreximbank and the African Union) settles payments in local currencies, without going through the dollar. Fewer conversions = lower fees and less waiting. A stablecoin like $USDT does something similar, but through a blockchain and in digital dollars. ⚖️ The caveats • No timeline, fees or limits have been published yet. • 81% of Ghanaian adults have access to financial services, but only 52.7% are actually included (real-world usage). • Reported fraud: +48% in 2025, mostly small scams targeting ordinary people. 👉 What Abena can do right now 1. Compare fees and exchange rates before each transfer. 2. Confirm the recipient’s name before approving the transfer. 3. Protect her SIM (PIN code): SIM-swapping is a common scam. Do you send money between African countries? How much does it cost you? 👇 Not financial advice. DYOR. Sources: GhanaWeb; Chale News (Oct. 13, 2026). #Ghana #Nigeria #Stablecoins #Afrique

🇬🇭 Ghana: the crypto watchdog exists… but the licensing door remains closed. Kwame sells car parts in Accra. He buys a little USDT through an app to pay a foreign supplier. Simple question: is this app authorized? As of October 2026, the answer is: no one can be yet. 📌 The facts • Act 1154 (the VASP Act) was passed in December 2025 and signed by the President on December 24. Providing crypto services without a license or registration becomes illegal. • The Bank of Ghana’s 2026 RTI manual, approved on September 23, 2026, lists a Virtual Assets Department reporting directly to the Governor and working with the SEC. • The BoG promised that license application forms and fees would be “available by the end of Q3 2026.” Q3 ended on September 30. No new date has been announced. • More than 100 companies registered in 2025. Registration ≠ license: they are waiting, and cannot advertise. 🧠 How it works VASP = virtual asset service provider (platform, custodial wallet, broker). A two-headed model: the BoG oversees payments and infrastructure, while the SEC oversees investment. A law sets the framework; detailed rules, an application portal, and regulators are still needed. Officials say full implementation could come in 2027. ⚖️ The nuance The market isn’t waiting: an estimated $3 billion in transactions over the year to June 2024, and around 3 million Ghanaians using crypto, according to industry estimates. The law targets businesses, not Kwame, who holds his own $BTC. But until licenses are available, he can’t check who’s trustworthy. 👉 What this means for Kwame A platform claiming to be “licensed in Ghana” today cannot be telling the truth yet. Keep amounts small, make a note of who holds your funds, and check the BoG’s official website. A law being passed doesn’t mean you’re protected yet. Would you rather have a strict framework that arrives late, or a fast but unclear one? 👇 #Bitcoin #Ghana #Afrique #Regulation #CryptoNews

Ghana: A Bitcoin regulator exists—but no one can apply for a license yet. The idea isn’t “the law passed, so it’s open.” It’s: department created, Act 1154 passed, and the licensing window… still closed. 📋 What’s clear (Oct. 2026) • Bank of Ghana: Virtual Assets Department listed in the 2026 RTI Manual (approved Sept. 23 by Governor Asiama)—direct line to the governor • VASP Act 2025 (Act 1154): providing services without registration / a license / permission = illegal • BoG “applications and fees” page: promised by the end of Q3 2026 (Sept. 30)—still the same text in early October • 100+ firms registered in 2025: identification, NOT a license to operate • Since Feb. 2026: anti-advertising directive—many can no longer promote themselves • Unofficially: full operationalization more likely in 2027 (guidelines + sandboxes) In plain language. Registration = “we know you exist.” License = “you have the right to operate.” A department without a licensing desk = a framework on paper, not yet an open regulated market. 🌍 For Kwame in Accra He already uses stablecoins / P2P to keep some electronic dollars. Useful questions: 1. Is my provider a VASP waiting for a license—or is this personal use / self-custody outside the scope? 2. If advertising is prohibited, how do I check who’s reputable? 3. “The law exists” ≠ “I can comply today” Filter: don’t confuse the existence of a regulator with licenses being available. Wait for a clear date on the BoG page before treating a provider as “licensed.” And you: do you read “regulator established” as “market open”—or are you waiting for the actual licensing desk? 👇 Not financial advice. Risks: legal ambiguity, advertising ban, delays. Do your own research. WEB3 IN AFRICA — CAN BLOCKCHAIN SOLVE REAL-WORLD PROBLEMS? 🌍🇬🇭When we talk about crypto, the conversation often focuses on prices, trading and profits. But I believe one of the more important questions is: Can blockchain technology help solve practical problems in African communities? Let’s explore a few possibilities. 1️⃣ Cross-border payments International payments can involve multiple intermediaries, fees and settlement delays. Blockchain-based payment systems may offer alternative transfer routes in suitable circumstances. However, the total cost, liquidity, exchange rates, regulatory requirements and conversion into local currency still matter. 2️⃣ Digital identity and credentials Educational institutions and other organizations could explore verifiable digital credentials. For example, a graduate might need a convenient way to prove that a qualification was issued by a recognized institution. Blockchain may support verification records, although privacy, institutional adoption and the protection of personal data must be addressed. 3️⃣ Agricultural supply chains Farmers, distributors and retailers need reliable records of how products move through a supply chain. Shared digital records could improve traceability when participants consistently enter accurate information. But blockchain cannot independently verify that the information recorded about a shipment is true. 4️⃣ Financial access Digital assets and blockchain-based applications may create additional ways to access certain financial services. At the same time, access to smartphones, reliable internet, digital literacy, consumer protection and appropriate regulation remain essential. Technology should make people’s lives better, not expose them to new risks. 5️⃣ Opportunities for African students For students interested in Computer Engineering and technology, Web3 provides opportunities to explore: 🔹 Software development 🔹Cybersecurity 🔹 Blockchain infrastructure 🔹 Smart-contract engineering 🔹 Data analysis 🔹 Product development 🔹 Technical research and education You do not have to become a trader to participate in this industry.
