📰 Four months after Hyperliquid’s HIP-4 launched, cumulative trading volume has reached $317 million, but it still lags far behind Polymarket and Kalshi. In September, for every $1,000 traded on Kalshi and Polymarket, HIP-4 saw only about 70 cents in volume.

🔥 What makes it stand out is that prediction markets and perpetual positions share the same account, margin, and matching engine. It feels more like an options order attached to a trading position. Entering is free; exiting costs around 0.1%. Anyone who wants to launch a market can apply by staking 500,000 HYPE.

💡 But good design doesn’t guarantee organic traffic. In its early days, HIP-4 was operated solely by the protocol itself; it didn’t open up to external venues until August 29. So far, only three venues have completed staking, and access also varies by region and network conditions. Some users can see it in the trading list, while others can only access it through a separate page.

The World Cup soccer markets once generated $89.5 million, accounting for 28% of total volume. After the tournament ended, trading volume fell by more than 80% over two months. After external venues joined, in September, one of them was still paying traders around 0.6 cents for every $1 traded. Rewards can certainly prop up volume, but the real question is how much demand will remain when the rewards stop.
