A new decentralized computing network just decided to move house—and the vote was almost unanimous.
Fact: The Akash community approved Proposal 346 on Nov. 2—with 97.27% of voting power in favor and participation from around 69% of bonded stake (Mintscan tally via KuCoin and The Defiant, Nov. 2; confirmed by an official Akash announcement via PR Newswire on Nov. 2). The proposal allows AKT to be issued as an SPL token on Solana, with a one-way 1:1 migration portal open for two years.
Status: CONFIRMED for governance approval—but it has NOT migrated yet. The new SPL token will launch only after two independent audits are completed (estimated 2–3 weeks after approval), and moving the marketplace itself still requires a separate cutover vote. There is no cutover date yet, and this migration is one-way: there’s no way back from SPL AKT to Cosmos AKT.
My take: This is a big move for AI DePIN—Akash is choosing Solana’s security and DePIN ecosystem over continuing to maintain its own chain. But what matters isn’t the vote; it’s the audits and the cutover. Until those two hurdles are cleared, this is an approved plan, not a completed migration. AKT is around $0.60 this morning, and SOL is around $92—the market has so far responded with indifference, not euphoria.
What I’m watching next: the results of those two audits, the opening of the migration portal, and the marketplace cutover vote—plus what happens to holders who don’t migrate within two years, because that’s still undecided.
Do you think moving to Solana makes Akash more relevant in the AI era, or does it make it lose its identity as an independent chain?
This is my analysis, not financial advice—always DYOR.
