The Golden Formula:
This simple diagram (see the first image below) illustrates my exact thought process. Look at it carefully. The moment you decide to take a trade, you are prioritizing protecting your capital.
The Breakdown: Why This Method Works
1. The 1% Golden Rule: This is critical. On any single trade, I am only willing to lose 1% of my total account value. If my account is $1,000, my maximum loss on that trade must be $10. Not a penny more.
2. Setting Your SL (Stop-Loss): I calculate my Position Size based on my Stop-Loss. If I enter a long at $100 and my SL is $90 (a 10% drop), and I need my total loss to be $10, my position size for that trade will be $100. This way, if the trade hits SL, I only lose my planned $10. Simple, mechanical, no emotions involved.
3. Targeting 1:2 Risk/Reward: This ensures profitability. If I am risking $10 to make $20, I only need to be right more than 33% of the time to break even, and 50% makes me solidly profitable. Consistency is key.
