According to Altman:
He started using TikTok while OpenAI was developing the Sora app to understand why people spend so much time on it.
He initially planned to use it for 10 minutes before bed, but it quickly turned into 1-hour sessions, and one Saturday he scrolled for about 3 hours.
He said it felt “like a drug” because he enjoyed it in the moment even though he knew it wasn’t good for him.
He eventually deleted TikTok completely, calling it “too powerful,” and has said he keeps phone notifications turned off to reduce distractions.
