The Quantum Alliance has just been formed, with nine crypto companies joining forces to establish post-quantum standards—and warning that 6 million BTC, around 30% of the supply, are completely exposed once quantum computing catches up. The market hasn’t priced in this narrative yet; if it really takes off, it’ll be nuclear-level FUD. Keep an eye on who’s using it as an excuse to dump and accumulate—don’t get shaken out. $BTC #Quantum #Crypto

🔐 9 crypto organizations launch the Quantum Alliance: ~6 M of $BTC (30.2% of the supply) already have an exposed public key. Not stealable today — but the risk is being prepared for now. 📌 The facts (Alliance + CoinDesk, Oct. 16, 2026) • 9 organizations (Quantus, Midnight Foundation, Postquant Labs, Hacken, The Vault…) are creating an open standards body • Goal: define what “quantum-ready” means and how to verify it • ~6 M BTC exposed (30.2%); ~1.1 M of those attributed to Satoshi • No current machine can break Bitcoin cryptography; some experts cite ~2028 as a possible window 🧠 How it works When you sign a transaction, your public key remains on the ledger. A sufficiently powerful quantum computer (using Shor’s algorithm) could derive the private key from that public key. Today: impossible. Tomorrow: migration to plan for. ⚖️ The nuance • This is NOT an imminent crash: theft isn’t possible with current hardware • Freezing “vulnerable” BTC (an idea under debate, including Satoshi’s) = a debate about property rights, not a consensus • The real cost = coordinating wallets, exchanges, miners — not just changing a formula 👤 Idrissa, a ride-hailing driver in Dakar, keeps a little BTC on an app. He doesn’t need to panic tonight. But understanding “exposed public key” helps him ignore scams like “sell your BTC before quantum computing arrives.” ✅ A distant threat ≠ an invented threat. AI clickbait headlines really know how to play. “Quantum computing is closer than ever”—Anthropic says Claude Mythos designed efficient quantum circuits. In plain English: a language model is helping with the design of quantum computing; it’s still a very long way from overturning BTC encryption. This kind of news is tailor-made for FUD around Bitcoin, but people have been talking about the quantum threat for a decade. Will it actually become reality? Let’s see if it can even make it out of the lab first. The narrative might get a short-term pump, but the risk-reward is awful—chasing the highs just means getting stuck holding the bag. $BTC #Quantum

Zcash sets a January target for quantum-safe payments after the bunker mode scare

Quantum risk went from a distant theory to a market mover this week. Zcash, the coin that fell hardest on Thursday, is now one of the first to put a near-term date on a fix, per CoinDesk.
📌 The news
Roman Akhtariev wrote in an engineering post for Zakura, a program used to run the Zcash network, that post-quantum signature opcodes are planned to land in January. No activation date for the network has been set yet. $ZEC closed Thursday near $1,185, down about 11% for the week.
🔍 Why it matters
• Justin Drake's call for holders to prepare for "bunker mode" warned that AI could find a shortcut in "months, not years" in the worst case
• Coinbase cryptographer Yehuda Lindell pushed back, saying there is no evidence the elliptic-curve math behind bitcoin and ether has been broken
• No practical attack on wallet keys has been demonstrated so far
📊 The numbers
• About 70% of issued ZEC sits in transparent addresses, the part the January plan covers
• ZEC trades near $1,225 today, per CoinGecko, down about 7% over seven days
• Ethereum's quantum migration target is December 2029
⚖️ Bull vs bear case
Bull: a privacy coin that also leads on quantum safety has a stronger story for long-term holders.
Bear: shielded funds still need separate work, and the coin's own design notes warn that encrypted records could be stored now and attacked later.
👀 What to watch next
• A network activation date and audits of the new signature code
• Whether other chains follow with their own timelines
━━━━━━━━━━━━
💡 My take: In my opinion the fear moved faster than the facts this week. Still, Zcash turning a scare into a dated plan is the right response, and I would judge it by the activation date, not the announcement.

Why are crypto founders arguing about lattices and hashes this week? 🧠 In plain words Bitcoin and Ethereum sign transactions with elliptic-curve math that a strong enough quantum computer could break. The two main replacements are lattice-based signatures, standardized by NIST in 2024, and hash-based signatures. Picture two new lock designs: one is compact and well tested, the other is bulkier but built on simpler parts. Per CryptoSlate, Vitalik Buterin favors hashes for Ethereum, while Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson defends lattices, with $ADA in his camp. ✅ What it means for you • Your coins are not at risk today; no practical attack has been shown • Chains will pick different paths, so upgrades may arrive at different times • Watch for wallet migrations, which will need action from users Takeaway: the debate is over which defense to build, not over whether to build one. #Quantum #Cardano

Two founders, one quantum argument, and very different conclusions. Per CryptoSlate, Charles Hoskinson accused Vitalik Buterin of undermining quantum-resistant cryptography. Buterin had warned that AI-assisted math could weaken some post-quantum designs and said Ethereum's long-term roadmap now leans toward hash-based signatures rather than lattice-based ones. Hoskinson's point: NIST standardized lattice schemes in 2024 after years of review, and doubting them on a hunch could slow everyone's migration. $ADA was up about 6% on the day. My view: both sides agree the threat is real. They disagree on which lock to install. 💬 Whose side are you on in this one? #Cardano #Quantum

Zcash is moving faster than most chains after this week's quantum scare. 📌 What happened Per CoinDesk, Zcash developers plan to add post-quantum, hash-based signature opcodes in January. The first target is transparent payments, where about 11.96 million of the 16.98 million $ZEC issued sits, roughly 70%. 🔍 Why it matters • The aim is to stop attackers from working backward from a public key to forge spending approvals • It follows a "bunker mode" warning from Ethereum researcher Justin Drake that put ZEC at the front of Thursday's selloff • Ethereum's own quantum migration targets December 2029, so Zcash would be years ahead on this piece 👀 What to watch • A real activation date, since January is when the code lands, not when the network turns it on • The risk side: shielded payments need separate protection, and stored encrypted records could in theory be decrypted later 💬 Should every chain now publish a quantum timeline? #Zcash #Quantum

Starknet is considering leaving its status as an Ethereum L2 to become a quantum-resistant L1 by 2027. The market didn’t wait for a vote: $STRK rose 57% in two days on Binance. The timeline: Oct. 7: Justin Drake (Ethereum Foundation) calls for preparations for “bunker mode,” as AI could threaten wallet signatures sooner than expected. Oct. 8, 08:32 UTC: Starknet’s official account writes, “We are actively considering becoming an L1,” targeting 2027, in response to a question from Eli Ben-Sasson (StarkWare CEO). The 1-hour candle moves from $0.0492 to $0.0530. Oct. 9, 17:00 UTC: price peaks at $0.07716, compared with $0.04907 at the close on Oct. 7. That’s the highest level since Jan. 22 ($0.0807). According to Binance data, STRK perpetual open interest rises from $11.1M (Oct. 8, 07:00 UTC) to $31.0M (Oct. 9, 18:00 UTC), while STRK/USDT spot volume reaches $53.4M on Friday, versus a 20-day average of around $10.4M. Funding is nearly neutral (+0.0044%). CoinDesk, citing CoinGlass data, notes that futures volume is around 5 times spot volume. Ben-Sasson’s argument: Ethereum aims to make its L1 quantum-resistant by the end of 2029, Bitcoin has made no commitment, and Starknet could do it in 2027. My take: the price is reflecting a narrative, not a decision. There’s no formal technical plan or governance vote at this stage. Open interest up about 2.8x with flat funding looks like longs entering, not a short squeeze. Two paths: Holding above $0.0625 (the Oct. 8 high) preserves the bullish structure, with $0.0807 in sight. A move back below that level would open the door to a return to $0.055–$0.056, where the Oct. 9 rally began. For an L2, leaving Ethereum to move faster on post-quantum security: a real advantage, or the end of the argument for inherited security from $ETH ? #Starknet #Quantum
