80 million in trading volume in a day, but only 15,000 holders—no matter how you do the math, something doesn’t add up.
老农 took another look at
$XDP this morning. Here’s the verdict upfront: put it on the watchlist, and approach with caution. It’s not that the project is bad; its data is just a little too “busy”—busy enough to make you uneasy 🤔
Here’s the situation. XDP is the token for Doppler Finance, on the Base chain. It only launched on Alpha in late September, so it’s been around for 20 days at most. It does something that sounds pretty technical: building a yield layer for the XRP ecosystem. If your
$XRP or RLUSD is sitting idle, you can deposit it into a vault and earn compound interest automatically. The system is called XRPfi. On its first day of trading, KuCoin called it a “global premiere.” Over on Binance Alpha, you could claim 1,666 tokens for 230 points (first come, first served—it was snapped up long ago).
The price is now $0.0186, up a little over 4% in 24 hours—looks harmless enough. The issue is the trading volume: $79.6 million in 24-hour volume, against a market cap of just $186 million, for a turnover rate of 43%—the busiest on the entire rankings. And then there are the trade counts: 206,000 transactions, but only 15,000 holders. That works out to 13 trades per holder per day. Do you really think that’s the trading pace of retail investors? There were 103,000 buy orders worth $39.3 million and 103,000 sell orders worth $40.2 million—almost perfectly symmetrical 🪞 And the pool? The main pool has just $1.94 million, while a single day’s trading volume is 41 times its depth.
老农’s translation: either market makers are diligently keeping up appearances, or a legion of bots is trading back and forth. Real retail money is probably just watching from the sidelines.
The tokens are concentrated, too: the top 10 addresses hold 85%, and I couldn’t find any information on LP lockups. The price is down about 40% from its peak. The project team does have more plans: the 1% genesis airdrop (100 million tokens) is open until November 28. If you haven’t claimed yours, check the official website. There’s also a points season and a staking plan coming up.
So, the verdict: watchlist, with caution. The volume is real, and the buzz is real—but that buzz probably has little to do with small retail investors like you and me. Let’s see what it’s really worth after the wash-trading frenzy dies down.
One risk reminder: This is not investment advice. Alpha projects are high-risk and could go to zero. Keep your hands in check.
