Federal decision (the most important event):
🐳The Federal Open Market Committee met on September 15–16, and the decision will be announced today at 2:00 PM Eastern Time. Markets are pricing in a greater than 90% chance of a rate increase (a quarter point, to reach a range of 3.75%–4.00%), which would be the first hike since 2023. This decision is especially important because it comes amid division within the committee and strict statements from Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh.
🔥Inflation pressures from oil:
Oil prices surpassed $100 per barrel for the first time since May due to rising tensions in the Middle East, pushing Treasury bond yields (10-year) to their highest level in roughly since 2023, putting pressure on stocks.
Index performance recently:
🥀Last week saw a decline, with the Dow Jones falling 1.6% (the largest weekly drop since March). The S&P 500 and Nasdaq also fell by 0.8% and 0.7%, respectively, amid cautious anticipation of the Federal decision.
