๐จ Coreum-XRPL Bridge Drained of ~200K XRP in 97-Minute Exploit โ ๏ธ
A cross-chain bridge connecting Coreum to the XRP Ledger was hit on August 9, resulting in the loss of approximately 199,916 XRP.
What happened:
โข Attacker exploited a flaw in the bridgeโs relay logic during deposit verification
โขForged deposit activity was accepted as legitimate
โข This triggered real withdrawals from the bridgeโs XRPL wallet
โข 94 multisignature-authorized transactions executed over 97 minutes
โข Bridge balance dropped from ~200,410 XRP to just 493.5 XRP
Important clarification:
โข This was not a breach of the XRP Ledger itself, nor did it involve any private key leaks. The issue was isolated to the third-party bridgeโs verification system (requiring 17 of 28 relayer signatures).
โข As of the latest reports, the bridge remains suspended and the Coreum Development Foundation has not yet released a full official incident report.
Another reminder of the risks that still exist in cross-chain infrastructure.
Cross-chain security remains a critical weak point. ๐
