$COIN rose 4.618% over the past 24 hours; the price even touched 185.99. At the same time, its perpetual contract funding rate is positive at 0.00011230. This is a typical microstructure of “chasing longs + paying for it.” A positive funding rate means traders holding long positions have to pay the shorts. When price rises and the funding rate is positive, it suggests there is some emotion premium embedded in the upward momentum—longs are propping up their positions with real money, and their cost is accumulating. This kind of structure makes me cautious. When a rally comes with a positive funding rate, it often isn’t the healthiest kind of rise. It implies that long positions may already be a bit crowded; as price pushes higher step by step, it takes more incremental capital to cover increasingly expensive holding costs. Once buy pressure can’t keep up, this positive feedback loop can easily reverse. Of course, a funding rate of 0.00011230 alone isn’t extremely crazy, but paired with the price action, it’s a signal worth paying attention to. The strongest counterevidence comes from U.S. stocks. If tech names like Nvidia and Tesla keep rallying strongly, and the market’s risk appetite is stretched upward, then $COIN—which is tightly tied to crypto sentiment—may ignore overheated microstructure signals and continue to follow the broader market higher. Its CryptoLink sector attribute can cause its beta to sometimes overpower its own micro-driven logic. The next phase depends on how U.S. stocks behave. If U.S. stocks start to pull back and risk appetite contracts, those longs accumulating positive funding costs on $COIN will feel pressure first. They’ll either cut losses and exit, or hold on stubbornly—either way, it increases sell pressure. Liquidity may drain out of these momentum-chasing instruments and rotate into more defensive assets. My current view is that in the short term it’s more likely to trade sideways or pull back. If $COIN’s price breaks below today’s 185.99 and the funding rate doesn’t quickly turn negative, the “crowded longs” scenario would be confirmed. If U.S. stocks see a one-day drop of more than 3%, then this view would also fail—in that case, all microstructure analysis would have to give way to systemic risk. In terms of action, I’m not going to chase longs right now. If the price retraces and the funding rate turns negative, it would suggest shorts are beginning to concede positioning; that could be a better risk-reward entry point. Conversely, if price keeps pushing up while the funding rate spikes above 0.01%, I would consider using a small position to short—betting on a fade in sentiment. Trading tag: #TradFi #链上美股 #COIN Where do you think this set of judgments is most likely to be wrong?

Where do you think this set of judgments is most likely to be wrong?
$COIN rose 4.618% in the past 24 hours, with the price reaching 185.99. On price alone, it looks like it’s just tracking the rally in U.S. tech stocks. But the futures market data sends a different signal: the funding rate is 0.00011230, which is positive. When price is rising and the funding rate is also positive, it means long positions are continuously paying shorts. This fee keeps accumulating and becomes the cost for the late buyers chasing the move. Current open interest is 78226.58, with no clear signs of retreat—suggesting the longs are still bearing this cost. Trading volume exceeds 33.54 million, indicating sufficient liquidity, but the direction is clearly dominated by buy orders. Overall, this is a typical emotion-driven rally. The longs are willing to keep paying to stay bullish, and market sentiment is overheated. The strongest counterevidence comes from macro sentiment. If U.S. stocks—especially technology stocks with high exposure to Coinbase-related shares and crypto-related stocks—continue to strengthen, risk appetite could rise. That may attract fresh capital into the market, temporarily masking the pullback pressure caused by the positive funding rate. My assessment depends on one premise: there are currently no macro events significant enough to reverse overall market risk appetite. If the price continues to move higher and the funding rate stays the same or increases, the cost for retail traders chasing long positions will keep getting higher. Once buy-side momentum weakens even slightly, or a small adverse development appears, these high-cost longs will be the first to get flushed out, potentially triggering a rapid pullback. In this move, the cost is borne by the chasing retail traders, while early entrants and the shorts collect the funding fees. This view fails under two conditions: first, the price strongly breaks through the 200 psychological level and holds above it; second, the funding rate quickly turns negative. The former would mean stronger FOMO sentiment overwhelms the funding pressure. The latter could indicate that shorts are starting to capitulate, pushing the market into a new phase. My action is to wait. At the current price and funding-rate structure, the cost-effectiveness of chasing longs is very low. I will consider entering only after two scenarios occur: the price pulls back to a more reasonable level, or the funding rate returns to neutral or turns negative. Entering now would be like lifting the chair for people who came before. Everyone thinks U.S. stocks are steady, and on-chain assets can follow—but this time, $COIN’s rally looks more like a momentum relay race among longs, and the baton is the positive funding rate. When the relay cost gets high enough, naturally someone drops out. Trading tag: #TradFi #链上美股 #COIN Where do you think this assessment is most likely to be wrong?

$COIN rose 4.6% over the past 24 hours, with a quoted price of $185.99. Meanwhile, its perpetual contract funding rate is positive at 0.00011230, meaning longs are paying shorts. Open interest is around 78,226 contracts. Compared with a trading volume of $33.54 million, it’s not especially unusually active. My view is that this rally is more like a momentum-driven chase driven by sentiment rather than a signal of new capital building a sustained trend position. Longs are accumulating their entry costs. Why do I say that? Look at the combination of price, funding rate, and open interest. Price is rising while the funding rate is positive—this is a typical “long chasing” setup. Since it’s settled every eight hours, longs have to keep pulling money from their pockets to pay the counterparty. Open interest hasn’t risen significantly alongside the price, which suggests that more of the upward push is coming from short-term speculative turnover rather than large funds making a firm entry. The last time a similar structure appeared—“up + positive funding rate + stable open interest”—the price subsequently saw a noticeable pullback within the following week. Funding rates, in essence, are a continuous small tax that steadily erodes longs’ floating profit patience. What’s the strongest counterexample? If the US stock market broadens, especially tech stocks, and strong buying emerges because some macro data unexpectedly improves, it could lift overall risk-asset sentiment. In that case, $COIN—being a crypto-related stock—might also be swept along and continue higher, ignoring the pressure from funding rates. If market liquidity suddenly becomes overly abundant, it can temporarily mask all structural issues. But what second-order effect would that bring? Those long positions established when the funding rate was still low or even negative now have their holding costs passively pushed higher. The longer it drags on, the higher the probability that they get worn out and forced out. Shorts may be paying, but they’re betting that price can’t hold at the current level. Once longs start closing to cut losses, downside momentum could accelerate, because the “bid” side just isn’t very thick. When does my view stop being valid? If $COIN’s price can strongly break through and hold above the $200 level, that would indicate long strength is sufficient to cover the funding cost—in which case I would reassess. But until then, the current structure isn’t sustainable. So my action is: wait. I’ll wait for the price to show a clear pullback, or for the funding rate to turn negative, before considering whether to enter. If I see open interest significantly expand as the price drops, that could indicate new short-side strength entering—then it might become a shorting opportunity. Chasing longs from this position offers a very poor risk-reward ratio. Trading tag: #TradFi #链上美股 #COIN Where do you think this thesis is most likely to be wrong?
$COIN rose 4.6% over the past 24 hours, with a quoted price of $185.99. Meanwhile, its perpetual contract funding rate is positive at 0.00011230, meaning longs are paying shorts. In the past 24 hours, COIN has fallen 5.204%, and its current price is 174.14, yet the funding rate is completely flat at zero. Old Dog took a quick look at the on-chain futures data: COIN’s open interest remains above 75,000 contracts. With this level of positioning, paired with a zero funding rate, it isn’t considered aggressive in the current segment. The root of this drop lies in BTC. COIN, as a U.S.-listed tokenized futures contract directly linked to crypto market sentiment, largely mirrors BTC’s movement—more precisely, it’s like a “shadow stock” with higher Beta. If BTC sneezes even slightly, a leveraged-bet asset like COIN is likely to catch a heavy cold. A 5.2% drop isn’t small, but the fact that the funding rate is 0 is crucial. It shows that neither longs nor shorts currently have the willingness to pay extra costs. The market isn’t clearly one-side crowded. Having no positive funding rate means there aren’t huge numbers of longs “holding up” positions at their own expense. And having no negative funding rate means shorts aren’t making panic bets. This is a cold, balanced standoff—typically seen in the period before the market chooses a direction. My view is that in the short term, COIN’s price action is essentially being controlled by BTC, and there’s little chance of an independent move. When the funding rate is zero, price changes are driven purely by spot sell pressure and futures position closures—there’s no incremental information from something like “longs paying shorts to maintain bullish positions.” This looks more like passive tracking than an active trade. The strongest counterevidence is this: if BTC unexpectedly stabilizes at this level and rallies strongly, COIN could very likely outperform BTC in the rebound due to its high Beta. Conversely, if BTC continues drifting lower, COIN’s losses will be amplified. The cost of holding is clearly defined. Price 174.14 is the anchor—there’s no additional long/short loss drag. The next forced actions are likely from those short-term funds using COIN as a BTC leverage substitute. They may rotate into other contracts because COIN lacks independent narrative and there’s no funding-rate arbitrage space, which would cause COIN’s open interest to leak out slowly. As for execution, I’m in a wait-and-see mode. The trigger is BTC printing a clear 4-hour trend. If BTC holds steady and breaks above the recent high with volume, I’ll consider lightly following the COIN rebound. If BTC breaks key support (for example, falls below the lower bound of the recent range), I’ll avoid COIN, because its downside would be harder to look at. Under the current zero-funding environment, I don’t have a strong directional bias—I’m simply following the trend. Trading tag: #BinanceFutures #TradFi #USDⓈM #COIN #COINUSDT $COIN

In the past 24 hours, $COIN has dropped nearly 5%, with the price falling to 177.34. This drawdown is clearly visible in the numbers on the chart. The reason for the drop has to be looked for on the political and military side. Recently, geopolitical tensions have been heating up, reviving traditional “safe-haven” sentiment, and causing funds to retreat from risk assets. For U.S. stock futures contracts like $COIN, which have some connection to crypto, liquidity is one of the first things to get pulled away. Looking only at this decline: without funding-rate support (current funding is 0), it doesn’t look like the kind of selloff driven by overly crowded shorts. It’s more like genuine, hard sell pressure, with the longs not really resisting. Open interest is still at 74,510, but the price couldn’t hold. Next, if there are no signs that the geopolitical situation is easing, this selling pressure may still have momentum. Right now shorts aren’t paying funding costs, so their costs are low—they may keep pressing the price down. My view is bearish in the short term, unless I see the price quickly rebound and hold above 185. At the current level I won’t catch the knife for now. I’ll consider opening a small short position if it breaks below the previous low of 175. If it rebounds into the 185–190 area, back to the pre-drop platform, I’ll consider cutting the short with a stop-loss.
