What Is Arbitrum?
Arbitrum is the leading Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum. It processes transactions off-chain and posts them back to Ethereum in batches, making transactions faster and up to 95% cheaper than on Ethereum mainnet .
The project was developed by Offchain Labs, a team led by former White House technology official Ed Felten, and launched in 2021 .
How it works:
Optimistic Rollups — transactions are assumed valid by default, with a 7-day challenge period for fraud proofsNitro — the core software engine, which improves speed, reduces fees, and enhances Ethereum compatibilityStylus — allows developers to write smart contracts in Rust, C, and C++ alongside SolidityBoLD — a permissionless fraud proof system launched in 2025, allowing anyone to validate the network
Arbitrum has two main chains:
Arbitrum One — the flagship Rollup for general dAppsArbitrum Nova — uses AnyTrust technology for lower fees, ideal for gaming and social apps
Key milestones:
December 2024: Reached $20 billion in TVL, becoming the first L2 to achieve thisOver 500 applications deployed on the networkOne of the most active L2s, processing 40–50% of Ethereum's daily transactions
What Is the ARB Token?
ARB is the governance token for Arbitrum, launched in March 2023 .
What it does:
Allows holders to vote on Arbitrum DAO proposalsUsed for funding, grants, and technical decisionsNot a gas token — transaction fees are paid in ETH
At its peak, ARB hit $2.40. Now it sits at $0.087.
Where Is Price Right Now?
Current price: $0.087. The 24h range is $0.075 to $0.090.
At $0.087, ARB is about 96.4% below its all-time high of $2.40.
The buyer/seller ratio shows 54.6% buyers — a slight edge.
Why Does This Matter?
Arbitrum is one of the most successful Layer 2s in crypto. It has:
$3.2 billion in bridge TVLThe largest ecosystem of any L2A well-established security track record since 2021
But the token price hasn't followed the network's growth. ARB is down 96% from its peak, despite the network's continued expansion.
The disconnect:
Arbitrum processes millions of transactions dailyDevelopers are building on itBut the token price reflects broader market sentiment, not network activity
Questions to Think About
If you're holding ARB, what's your reason — the Layer 2 narrative, the governance utility, or the hope for a return to $2.40?Arbitrum has $20B in TVL and 500+ apps. Does $0.087 reflect that level of adoption?ARB is a governance token, not a utility token. Does that change how you value it?If ARB stays around $0.08 for another year, will you hold or move on?
One Reflection
From $2.40 to $0.087. That's a 96% drop.Arbitrum is the leader in Layer 2 adoption. The technology works. The ecosystem is growing. But the token — a governance token — hasn't followed. The network is successful, but the price hasn't caught up.The question is: Does $0.087 represent value for a token that governs the most successful L2 in crypto? Or is the market still waiting for governance tokens to be valued differently?
