Intel just had its worst day since 1974.

The stock dropped about 29% on Friday. It closed at $65.76, down from $92.07 a day earlier. That's nearly $140 billion in market value gone in one session.
The trigger was the Q4 forecast. Intel guided to $15 to $16 billion in revenue. Analysts were expecting $17.05 billion. It pointed to weak PC demand, data center supply problems, and a factory accident in Israel.
The strange part is the quarter it just reported was strong. Data center and AI revenue grew 78% to $7.3 billion, its fastest growth in 15 years. The market didn't care. It looked at next quarter and sold.
And it didn't stay with Intel. Chip stocks lost around $1 trillion on the day, and the Nasdaq had its worst session since June. The US government owns about 10% of Intel too, and that stake dropped around $12 billion.
I'm not calling Intel dead. The stock is still up about 80% this year. But it's also down more than half from the June high.

What I'm watching next is whether Intel can fix the supply problem. If it can't, this won't be a one-day story.
