On August 7, Grayscale withdrew the registration statements for its proposed spot ETFs tied to Cardano (ADA), Hedera (HBAR) and Polkadot (DOT).
At first glance, this looks negative.
But I think the bigger story is the distinction between ending a current filing and abandoning an asset permanently.
These withdrawals were not SEC rejection orders. The filings were voluntarily withdrawn, and the documents state that Grayscale would no longer proceed with the planned share distributions under those registration statements.
That changes how I read the news.
The near-term ETF catalyst for ADA, HBAR and DOT has clearly weakened. The market also reacted negatively around the news.
But the longer-term question is different.
Grayscale still has exposure to the broader altcoin market, and its ETF pipeline has not simply disappeared.
So I would not call this an exit from altcoins.
I would call it a change in strategy and timing.
