I was first drawn to Babylon because the idea of extending Bitcoin's role beyond being a passive store of value immediately caught my attention. At first glance, it seemed like another attempt to connect Bitcoin with broader blockchain infrastructure, but the more I read, the less interested I became in the headline and the more interested I became in the architecture that makes the idea possible.
What keeps me studying Babylon is the relationship between self-custodial BTC staking and the security assumptions of proof-of-stake networks. Instead of asking Bitcoin holders to abandon the principles that made the asset valuable in the first place, the protocol explores whether existing trust can reinforce newer ecosystems without fundamentally changing Bitcoin itself. That immediately raises deeper questions. Can incentives remain balanced as participation grows? Will validators continue acting in ways that strengthen both networks, or do conflicting economic interests eventually emerge? Those questions matter more to me than any short-term milestone.
The longer I observe blockchain infrastructure, the more I believe durable protocols depend on coordination rather than novelty alone. Babylon continues to stay on my watchlist because its long-term success will likely depend less on technical ambition and more on whether its security model, validator incentives, and governance can evolve together without weakening the trust that made the design compelling in the first place.
