#ukfcaopenscryptofirmauthorization 🇬🇧 UK FCA OPENS CRYPTO AUTHORISATION GATEWAY — NEW REGIME TAKES SHAPE
The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has opened the application window for cryptoasset firms seeking full authorisation under the UK’s new regulatory regime from 30 September 2026.
🔍 KEY POINT: EXISTING REGISTRATION IS NOT AUTOMATIC AUTHORISATION
Firms currently registered under the UK’s AML cryptoasset registration regime will not automatically receive authorisation under the new framework.
In-scope businesses — including certain crypto exchanges, custodians, trading platforms and qualifying stablecoin-related firms — will need to obtain the relevant permissions under the Financial Services and Markets Act (FSMA).
📅 IMPORTANT DATES
• 🟢 Applications open: 30 September 2026
• ⏳ Application window closes: 28 February 2027
• 🚀 Full new regime expected: 25 October 2027
🏦 WHAT CHANGES FOR CRYPTO FIRMS?
The FCA’s new framework is intended to bring cryptoasset businesses closer to established financial-services standards, with requirements covering areas such as:
• Corporate governance
• Prudential resilience
• Market integrity
• Custody and client-asset protection
• Consumer protection
• Risk management and operational controls
💡 WHY IT MATTERS
The transition could increase compliance requirements and operating costs for crypto businesses, while authorisation may also provide greater regulatory clarity and potentially affect how firms compete in the UK market.
For Britain’s crypto industry, the coming years will show how the new regulatory framework affects investment, infrastructure, innovation and the development of London as a digital-asset hub.
⚠️ Important: Existing AML registration should not be treated as equivalent to full FCA authorisation under the new regime.
The UK’s crypto regulatory transition is now moving from discussion toward implementation. 🇬🇧
