Wall Street just plugged into blockchain for real. 🏛️
DTCC, the clearinghouse behind nearly all US securities settlement, has switched on its Tokenization Service. 34 securities, large-cap stocks, ETFs and US Treasuries, can now be minted as tokens backed 1:1 by assets held at DTC, and moved between registered wallets around the clock.
20 major firms signed on at launch, including JPMorgan, Citi, Morgan Stanley, Fidelity and Citadel Securities. The eligible pool is worth roughly $30 trillion. Tokens run on the Canton Network (
$CC ) and DTCC's private Besu chain, with Stellar and Circle's Arc planned for 2027.
Why this matters: this is not another pilot or press release. DTCC settles trillions daily. When its plumbing goes tokenized, collateral can move in minutes instead of sitting idle over weekends. That is the real tokenization thesis: faster settlement, freer collateral, 24/7 movement.
The honest caveat: this is permissioned, not crypto as most of us know it. Conversions are business-hours only, transfers are compliance-gated, and the $30T figure is the eligible pool, not tokens already minted. Adoption will be measured in actual issuance, not headlines.
Still, the direction is unmistakable. The world's biggest market infrastructure just went live onchain. Watch Canton ecosystem names and RWA plays, but size positions for a slow grind, not an overnight repricing.
