Pepe Unchained ($PEPU) has updated its 2026 roadmap with a consumer first blockchain strategy.
According to the July 23 roadmap update, the project reviewed several possible directions, including AI, gaming, SocialFi, memecoins, DeFi, and a general-purpose rollup. The team said AI applications can still exist on PEPU, but it does not want the blockchain to depend on one market narrative. It also said gaming ecosystems such as Immutable and Ronin already have years of relationships with studios and developers.
Instead, Pepe Unchained said it will focus on consumer applications where users can trade memes, play games, collect items, earn rewards and use products, while the blockchain itself moves into the background.
Phase 1 includes simpler onboarding, social logins, account abstraction where possible, gas sponsorship, improved developer documentation, SDKs and templates, improved APIs, stronger explorers and analytics, and easier deployment and testing.
The July 23 update follows an earlier 2026 roadmap announcement in which Pepe Unchained said it needed a clearer long-term identity instead of remaining "just another rollup." That roadmap introduced a three-phase plan beginning with research into underserved crypto markets, consumer demand and builder feedback. The latest update concludes that process by positioning Pepu as a consumer-first blockchain before later phases focused on technical improvements, builder support and ecosystem growth.
Pepe Unchained raised more than $73 million during its token presale before launching its Ethereum Layer 2 network and PEPU token in December 2024. The project migrated to a new Layer 2 infrastructure and introduced a new PEPU token in May 2025.
