The official exchange rate reference and the price at which USDT trades in Venezuela’s P2P market are not the same thing. As of October 17, 2026, at 14:00, the Central Bank of Venezuela’s rate stood at 881.0664 bolivars per dollar, while the P2P radar reported USDT prices ranging from 981.20 to 1,018.18 bolivars, depending on the side of the transaction. The difference between these two extremes is 36.98 bolivars.

That gap is worth understanding clearly: it is not a tax, a fixed fee, or an official reference rate. It is the result of a market where each trader sets their own price, limit, and payment method.

📊 The official rate: what changed and what didn’t

The BCV figure moves in small increments. According to reference publications, on October 13 the exchange rate exceeded 876 bolivars [2]; on October 16 it stood at 880.1159 bolivars, up 0.113% [6]; and on October 19 it was reported at 881.0664 bolivars, up 0.108% [1]. At the cutoff used for this analysis, the rate remains at 881.0664.

The takeaway is simple: daily changes below 0.15% mean a slow, gradual shift—not a jump. This pace is why the P2P market premium can widen or narrow faster than the official rate, since the P2P market responds to that day’s supply and demand, not to an administrative announcement.

One detail that is often overlooked: at the same cutoff, the BCV euro rate is 991.16 bolivars and the parallel euro rate is 1,145.41, resulting in a 15.56% premium—virtually identical to the dollar’s. When the gap is repeated across two different currencies, it points to a condition in the local market as a whole, rather than isolated behavior in the USD/VES pair.

📈 15.56% premium: what it measures and what it doesn’t

The radar’s main indicator calculates the premium by comparing the USDT purchase price (1,018.18 bolivars) with the official rate: 15.56%. It’s a subtraction, not a projection.

• Arithmetic example: 100 USDT at 1,018.18 equals 101,818 bolivars. At the official rate, those same 100 dollars are worth 88,106.64 bolivars. The difference is 13,711.36 bolivars.

• Conversely: at the selling price of 981.20 bolivars, one million bolivars converts to 1,019.16 USDT. At the official rate, one million bolivars equals about 1,134.99 dollars.

These are calculation references, not an invitation to trade or a guarantee of results: any actual transaction involves fees, offer limits, settlement times, and counterparty risk.

Methodological transparency note: the signal module in the same radar reports a 13.46% premium because it calculates it using a purchase price different from the one in the main indicator. Both figures can be correct if the basis used is stated. This article uses 15.56%, the figure published by the main indicator.

🔎 Dispersion: the real price is in the order book

The radar’s aggregate spread is 36.98 bolivars, equivalent to 3.77%. This figure measures the range between the market extremes, not the cost of a specific transaction.

Looking at the order book captured at the same cutoff, the picture is much tighter: the best sell offer is 1,009.50 bolivars (Banesco) and the best buy offer is 1,008.01 bolivars (Banco del Tesoro). The actual spread is 1.49 bolivars, or 0.15%, with a midpoint of 1,008.75. Visible order book levels extend up to 1,018.00 and down to 1,001.02.

Here’s something traders should verify for themselves: the selling price of 981.20 reported by the aggregate indicator does not appear among the order book levels captured at that same cutoff. This is a methodological difference between the two modules. The practical recommendation is not to treat any single figure as a definitive reference, but to confirm it in the order book before placing an order.
