🧵 Inflation in Venezuela stood at 8.4% in September

The BCV reported that monthly inflation fell from 19.9% in July to 8.9% in August and 8.4% in September.

However, prices have accumulated an increase of 225.32% in 2026.

📊 Inflation decreased by 0.5 percentage points compared to August and completed its second consecutive month of slowdown.

Year-over-year inflation was 465.58%, while May continues to show the lowest monthly variation of 2026, at 6.3%.

I agree with not feeding the speculation of street vendors and not paying 950+ for a bill when there are more efficient alternatives.
But there’s one more underlying point: a lot of people think “protecting themselves from inflation” = buying cash dollars. That’s the real bottleneck. It’s not a lack of options in bolívares; it’s ignorance.

Idle bolívares get eaten. Invested bolívares don’t necessarily.

The Caracas Stock Exchange is not an exclusive club or a miracle. It’s a small market, with low liquidity and real risks. Even so, in 2026 the IBC has accumulated a rise of 252% so far this year and over 570% year over year, while the official dollar has gone up close to 188% in the year. In other words: there are shares of Venezuelan companies that have performed better than official devaluation and, in several intervals, also better than the parallel rate. This isn’t theory. It’s on the board.

Corner speculation isn’t financial education.
Investing with an account at a brokerage firm, with clear costs and a time horizon, is.

According to CryptoQuant, deposits to altcoin exchanges surged 160% in two weeks to 78,000 weekly transactions, the highest figure since October 2025. This could indicate that holders are preparing to sell. Likewise, active addresses sending funds to exchange platforms nearly tripled, from 17,600 to more than 51,000, suggesting a widespread pattern and not just the isolated movement of a single whale.

Hermes Pérez: Despite record FX injection from the BCV, the exchange-rate gap does not ease

Interventions by the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) in the currency exchange desks have accumulated more than US$12 billion year-to-date, a figure boosted by the international price of oil but still insufficient to eliminate the exchange-rate gap and contain pressures on the national currency.

According to an analysis by economist Hermes Pérez, the most recent head of the BCV’s Exchange Desk, the volume offered by the issuing authority doubles the amount traded in the same period of the previous year and triples what was recorded two years ago.

This increase in the availability of foreign currency has been supported by the performance of Venezuela’s oil basket, whose average value came in at around US$90 per barrel, compared with the US$60 average in the previous fiscal exercise.

The exchange-rate gap as a driver of inflation

Despite greater foreign-currency liquidity, the distance between the official exchange rate and quotations in the parallel market is directly reflected in the cost structure of goods and services. This distortion prevents the higher flow of dollars from stabilizing price formation.

Pérez explained that the traditional monetary-policy tools adopted by the issuing authority (such as setting deposit interest rates at 46%) lack effectiveness in discouraging consumption or encouraging saving in bolívars when year-on-year inflation exceeds 500%.

In this scenario, the economist stressed that the massive injection of resources and the estimates for growth of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), projected between 6% and 10% for year-end, do not translate into a recovery of purchasing power or into stability for workers’ wages.
