📊 BCV accelerates devaluation: official dollar rose 1.98% over the week

The Central Bank of Venezuela marked a new milestone in the foreign exchange market. According to official data, the dollar closed the week at Bs. 772.54, and that will be the official exchange rate for next Monday, August 17. This weekly increase of 1.98% doubles the change from the previous week (1.06%), showing a clear acceleration in the pace of bolívar devaluation.

In August so far, the official parity has risen 3.17%, and if we compare it with the 2.93% increase in the second half of July, we see that the pace is increasing. The dollar’s run doesn’t stop: by the first half of August, the official dollar price has accumulated a 156.34% rise during 2026.

📈 Euro: a thermometer for the currency gap

The euro also plays a key role in this scenario. In the second week of August, the European currency closed at Bs. 894.49, meaning it is 15.79% above the official dollar. This gap is not a coincidence: the euro has become a reference for setting prices in the commercial sector and for paying state fees, as established by the BCV itself.

During the first seven and a half months of the year, the euro rose 152.33%, four percentage points less than the dollar. But the euro’s upward trend is more recent, and many analysts see it as a leading indicator of where the currency gap could be headed.

🔎 What does this mean for the P2P market and USDT?

At PitbullChain, we know that every move in the official dollar directly impacts the P2P market. When the BCV accelerates devaluation, USDT sellers tend to adjust their rates immediately, often above the official quote, seeking to protect themselves from a greater future depreciation.

The weekly acceleration is a clear signal: in recent days, P2P rates to buy USDT in bolívares have reflected this nervousness. As the official dollar rises, platforms like Binance P2P or LocalBitcoins see an increase in demand for stablecoins, as users look for shelter in dollarized assets to preserve their capital.

Also, the gap between the official dollar and the parallel one widens, creating P2P trading opportunities for the most experienced operators. But it is also a wake-up call for those who have their savings in bolívares: the erosion of purchasing power is direct.

💰 Venezuelan banking: buying and selling foreign currency under pressure

The banking market is not falling behind. According to BCV data, banks closed the week with dollar purchase rates ranging from Bs. 740.70 to Bs. 806.83. These ranges are very wide and reflect the lack of a unified exchange-rate policy.

The most striking part is the weekly increase: the lowest purchase rates rose 13.44%, while the highest increased 15.46%. On the selling side, banks offer dollars between Bs. 775.26 and Bs. 815.34, with increases that exceed 18% in some cases. This volatility leads many users to see the P2P market as a more predictable—if not at least faster—alternative for obtaining dollars.

Venezuelan digital banking, which traditionally offers the dollar at the BCV rate, is losing ground to crypto platforms because the gap with the parallel market makes P2P more attractive. However, risks in informal markets must also be taken into account.

🛡️ BCV strategies: injecting dollars or just patching things up?

The BCV has intensified its dollar injection strategy: it surpassed $5.5 billion in the first five months of the year and projects reaching $1.8 billion per month to contain the gap. But results are not keeping up. The bolívar keeps losing value, and inflationary pressures do not ease.

Analysts consulted point out that this level of intervention has not managed to stabilize the currency, and that the acceleration in devaluation could be driven by a combination of factors: higher public spending, agents’ expectations, and a real demand for dollars that the BCV cannot satisfy indefinitely.

For the crypto market, this represents an ideal environment for adopting USDT and other stablecoins—not only as a refuge but also as a payment method in e-commerce. More and more Venezuelans use cryptocurrencies to transact at fair prices and avoid the bolívar’s exchange-rate risk.
