About The Elrond Network (EGLD)

Elrond is a decentralized blockchain network founded by brothers Beniamin and Lucian Mincu, along with Lucian Todea, in 2017. As a shard-enabled blockchain, it seeks to enhance scalability and lower transaction fees amongst actively launched blockchains.

The underlying protocol in Elrond’s blockchain technology consists of smart contract programming. Developers seeking to build on Elrond can do so in the Rust, C and C++ languages.

Elrond’s native cryptocurrency, MultiversX (EGLD), is used for minimal transaction fees and as a reward for validators on its blockchain network. Network validator nodes actively secure the Elrond network, validate network transactions, and mint new EGLD. EGLD price is updated and available in real time on Binance.

People Also Ask: Other Questions About Elrond

  1. What Does EGLD Stand For?

EGLD is an abbreviated form of Elrond Gold or eGold.

  2. What is EGLD Used For?

EGLD is used to reward network validators who support Elrond’s Secure Proof-of-Stake (SPoS) consensus model, as well as to calculate Elrond’s network fees.

  3. How Do Network Consensus and Validation Work on Elrond?

Elrond implements an SPoS consensus mechanism, which is largely similar to proof-of-stake (PoS) except in how transactions are processed. Sharding on Elrond is facilitated by validator nodes being broken into subsets in order to process multiple simultaneous transactions.

Upon processing, the transactions are broadcasted to the metachain (Elrond’s main blockchain) for final settlement. Known as adaptive state sharding, this enables the processing of around 12,500 transactions per second (TPS) on the Elrond blockchain.

  4. Who are the Elrond Founders?

Elrond was founded in 2017 by COO Lucian Todea and brothers Beniamin and Lucian Mincu, who act as CEO and CIO, respectively. Todea is a relatively well-known tech entrepreneur and angel investor, while Beniamin Mincu is an early blockchain adopter and pioneer in Europe.

Lucian Mincu, the younger of the two brothers, is considered by some to be a tech wizard. He uses his background in engineering, tech, and business leadership to manage all of Elrond’s information processes.

  5. What is the Maximum Token Supply of EGLD?

While the maximum supply of EGLD started at 20,000,000 coins, that number has increased to around 31.4 million in order to reward Elrond’s network validators. At the time of writing, there is a circulating supply of approximately 23.93 million EGLD tokens.

  6. What Makes Elrond Different From Others?

Elrond’s SPoS consensus model, along with adaptive state sharding, sets it apart from other blockchain networks.

  7. How To Buy EGLD?

EGLD can be purchased directly from Binance using a debit or credit card. It can also be traded for other cryptocurrencies on the Binance exchange. Live EGLD price is updated in real time on Binance. Additional EGLD price and purchase information is available in our How to buy MultiversX (Elrond) (EGLD) Guide.

Blockchain Startup Elrond Rebrands to Focus on Metaverse
Blockchain startup Elrond has rebranded itself MultiversX to reflect its pivot to metaverse exploration.Elrond will aim to build on its prior work as a layer 1 blockchain with a focus on scalability to advance Web3 technology in the form of metaverse-related products. The metaverse is a conceptual world where the internet theoretically becomes an immersive virtual environment that can be used for work, play, socializing, and events. The term was coined by Neal Stephenson in his 1992 novel “Snow Crash.”With the rebrand, Elrond would appear to be following the lead of social media giant Facebook, which last year renamed itself Meta to reflect its metaverse-related aspirations.

Opera's Crypto Browser to Add Support for Elrond After Roping In Eight Other Blockchains
Web3 browser Opera will soon integrate scalable blockchain Elrond to its crypto browser, allowing users to access the network through its integrated Opera Wallet.Opera, one of the original web browsers, has been building crypto products since 2018. It released a beta version of its specialist “Crypto Browser Project” in January. In March, the Norwegian browser company added in-browser crypto wallet support for eight other blockchains, including Solana and Polygon.Opera and other crypto-focussed browsers, like Brave, have been betting big on an explosion in Web3, which refers to the third generation of Internet services driven by blockchain. The increased Web3 integration will make it easier for users to interact with different decentralized finance (DeFi) and other on-chain ecosystems.“The vision we share and the common goal of minimizing user onboarding friction into Web3 are the driving force behind this new collaboration,” Beniamin Mincu, CEO of Elrond, said.Later this year, Opera will add support for Elrond’s dapps, blockchain applications that run without a central administrator, and its native token EGLD, Senior product manager of Opera Crypto Browser, Danny Yao told CoinDesk.According to a press release shared with CoinDesk, Opera has over 300 million users. At press time, Opera refused to disclose its crypto users' number.
