About ICON (ICX)

ICON is a decentralized network of protocols operating on the underlying independent ICON blockchain. The platform seeks to be a hub for a consortium of independent decentralized applications (DApps), smart contracts, and economies of scale. Its mission reflects a keen interest in enhancing the interoperability of businesses, non-profit organizations, and public entities through its blockchain and decentralized ecosystem.

ICON was founded in 2017 by South Korean tech entrepreneur and advisor Min Kim. That same year, it launched its native token ICX, which is supported on the Ethereum blockchain. In January 2018, ICON launched its full network. ICX holders reportedly received their tokens later that year, in June.

ICON has its own internal token standard that is implemented on its ICR-16 blockchain. Reportedly proposed in 2019, ICR-15 enables the issuance of securities and tokenized assets by ICON network participants. ICX is used in ICON network operations and traded as an interchangeable cryptocurrency token. ICX price is updated and available in real time on Binance.

People Also Ask: Other Questions About ICON

  1. What is ICX Used For?

ICX is the ICON’s native operational cryptocurrency and is used to pay for network fees incurred on the ICON’s independent blockchain. In line with its network infrastructure, ICON also enables ICX token staking in certain instances.

  2. How Do Network Consensus and Validation Work on ICON?

ICON operates using a Delegated Proof-of-Contribution (DPoC) network model. Considered a variant of the Delegated Proof-of-Stake(DPoS) consensus model, DPoC requires validator nodes to hold tokens in order to participate in the network. Like DPoS, DPoC is considered more democratic and efficient than the proof-of-stake (PoS) model.

  3. How Do ICON’s Components Work?

The ICON network is powered by an innovation called Loopchain, which is responsible for keeping the five main components of the network running smoothly. The five ICON network components are the Icon Republic, Icon Communities, Community Representatives, Community Nodes, and Citizen Nodes; they are needed to ensure the ICON economies and applications operate without issue.

  4. Who is the ICON Founder?

ICON was founded in 2017 by South Korean tech entrepreneur and advisor Min Kim. Prior to establishing ICON, Min Kim founded global e-commerce company IVELA.

  5. What is the Maximum Token Supply of ICX?

ICX does not have an available maximum supply. At the time of writing, ICX has a circulating supply of approximately 953.14 million tokens.

  6. What Makes ICON Different From Others?

The internal network ICR-16 token standard developed by ICON in 2019 allows businesses, non-profit organizations, and public companies to create their own tokenized assets.

This way, companies are able to represent their equity shares in token form and raise funds by leveraging their own shares through private or public sales. This is how ICON seeks to establish a “digital nation” where entities are empowered to establish their own currencies and value stores with their own rules.

  7. How To Buy ICX?

ICX can be purchased directly from Binance using a debit or credit card and can also be traded for other cryptocurrencies on the exchange. Live ICON price is updated in real time on Binance. Additional ICX price and purchase information is available in our How to Buy ICON (ICX) Guide.
