Came across Lightning Labs: Wavelength is now officially open to everyone on Bitcoin mainnet—both people and AI agents can send and receive payments over the Lightning Network, with transactions as small as a few cents. No need to run your own node, manage channels, or provision liquidity. Agents can use MCP (wavecli mcp serve) together with L402 to pay for APIs per request, buy data, and settle with other agents—without needing manual approval for every transaction. It’s a self-custodial wallet, and you can exit back on-chain anytime. It’s still in alpha for now: mainnet wallets are capped at around 300,000 sats, and each VTXO at around 50,000 sats. Lightning payments in both directions incur a 0.25% service fee (plus routing fees). Stablecoin support is still on the roadmap. It’s a bit like giving AI agents a little wallet they can spend sats from—the tools for the agent economy are starting to land on mainnet. $BTC #Bitcoin #Lightning #AI

Block (Cash App / Square) has just announced its entry into the x402 Foundation, with a concrete contribution: Lightning Bitcoin payments plugged into the x402 protocol. FACTS (official Block blog, 09/24/2026; Cointelegraph / CoinCentral confirmations) • x402 = an open standard that reuses the HTTP 402 Payment Required code for agentic commerce (AI agents that pay for APIs, data, services) • Governance under the Linux Foundation • Block / Spiral brings Lightning as an instant payment rail: low cost, high volume • Related mentions: goose (open-source agent), Universal Commerce Protocol, Agentic AI Foundation • No announced date for a Cash App, Square, or Bitkey integration for the general public Spot context (refresh): $BTC ~84.5k (+0.1% vs open), ETH ~2,705, SOL ~121, XRP ~1.52; F&G 70 Greed; calm OKX funding. INTERPRETATION This is not a listing, nor a buyback treasury. It’s infrastructure: Block is pushing $BTC (via Lightning) as a settlement currency for agents—not just for humans. The framing by Spiral (Steve Lee) points in that direction. The reading risk: confusing protocol contribution with a retail product that’s already live. Today, only the standard layer has been announced. 📚 What is the Lightning Network? $BTC {future}(BTCUSDT) Today's BTCPay Server news mentioned "Lightning nodes" being drained. Here's what it actually is. 🔍 A "Layer 2" payment network on top of Bitcoin — fast, cheap transactions that would be impractical directly on Bitcoin's main blockchain (~7 TPS, high fees during congestion). 📊 How it works: Two parties lock BTC to open a "payment channel," then send unlimited instant, near-free transactions between themselves — only opening/closing touches the main blockchain. Connected channels form a network. 🔑 Why merchants use it: Instant Bitcoin payments without waiting for confirmations or paying high fees. 🔍 Why today's exploit hit "credentials," not the blockchain: Lightning software (like LND) uses authentication keys ("macaroons") to control nodes. Bitcoin's base protocol wasn't touched — the flaw was in one processor's credential management. ❌ Common mistake: Confusing "Bitcoin was hacked" with "software built on Bitcoin was hacked" — important distinction. 📌 Golden rule: Layer 2 solutions add their own attack surface, separate from Bitcoin's base layer security. ⚠️ Educational content, not financial or security advice. #cryptoeducation #tradingtips #Lightning #BinanceSquare

One-sight takeaway: If you’re running a Core Lightning node, you should upgrade to v26.06.7 as soon as possible. Don’t just look at the version number printed at startup—Docker users also need to verify the image digest. According to Blockstream’s official blog (2026-08-28): v26.06.7 is a point-release fix covering a vulnerability that had been confirmed over roughly the past three weeks. The signed binaries were released first; the source code was originally planned to be made public on 2026-09-11. If you can’t upgrade right away, you can restart with --offline first to cut off the external message channel; once upgraded, remove that parameter. Versions lower than 26.06.7 are no longer supported; the regular 26.09 release is still scheduled for the end of September. Independent verification (CryptoSlate 2026-09-09): During the period from about 2026/08/28 16:04 UTC to 2026/09/01, tags such as v26.06.7, latest, v26.06.7-vls, latest-vls, etc. issued images that showed “version number displays 26.06.7 but doesn’t include the fix.” You must re-pull the image after verifying the digest against the official announcement. Instant takeaway: for application development that embeds Lightning, it’s recommended to get to LDK v0.2.6 as soon as possible—the official fixes issues where the counterparty could overcharge splice fees by occupying extra amounts, and where nodes might fail to restart after refusing forged payments. According to the official CHANGELOG of lightningdevkit/rust-lightning (2026-09-09, title “The More You Dig”): with malicious splices, the counterparty can no longer slightly raise the fee when we initiate a splice and record the extra portion into the other side’s outputs (#4905). After a payment_hash has already been successfully forwarded, it will immediately reject a forged HTLC, and it will also no longer leave ChannelManager in a state that causes deserialization failures or prevents startup (#4982). It also addresses issues such as false reporting of splice events when serialization write fails, and startup failures caused by crashes after closing an unconfirmed empty channel. The announcement states that there are currently no reports of exploited use or any loss of funds. Independent review: CryptoSlate (2026-09-13) restates the same points—v0.2.6 addresses small-offset issues related to splice funds and restart failures; when LDK is compiled into a wallet/payment service, end users need to wait until the application-side integration is merged before they can receive the patch. Lightning Network CTO drops a 103-page paper: lots of people squeezed into one $BTC UTXOLightning Labs’ Olaoluwa Osuntokun (roasbeef) unveiled LayerTree on October 15: many people share one Bitcoin output, with balances recorded in an off-chain Merkle-sum tree. Anyone can exit unilaterally in a single transaction, with no timelock or presigning; the operator cannot take the funds or block a valid exit. The numbers on paper: at depth 16 (about 65,000 slots), a solo exit is about 1,020 vB—roughly 9 times the size of an ordinary individual spend, but still lighter than a comparable Ark-style exit at about 2,511 vB. With around 1,000 people joining in a batch, the per-person cost can drop below 1 vB. The hard constraints need to be made clear: because it relies on script opcodes that have not yet been activated, it cannot run on the current $BTC mainnet. The operator controls admission, not exits; everyone shares the same output, so simultaneous withdrawals compete for confirmation bandwidth. The paper and reference implementation are at layertree.tech, and Bitcoin.com has also covered it.

One-eye conclusion: For BTCPay merchant nodes, run the merchant-node, upgrade to 2.4.4 as soon as possible, and remove any self-manually re-exposed LND routes—officially, the team has seen the bot scanning the password-change interface during the restart window. According to the official BTCPay Server blog (2026-09-08): the standard Docker deployment previously disabled the external LND API; but some people manually re-exposed it anyway. The bot repeatedly calls `/lnd-rest/btc/v1/changepassword`. When the wallet is still locked, this route may be accessed without a macaroon; older versions even used a shared default password. After LND restarts and before the internal unlocker connects, there is a short window. If an attacker submits a known password first, they could change the password and then request the admin macaroon, thereby taking control of the node. Two hardening paths in 2.4.4: for new wallets, use a unique random password (old default passwords will be automatically migrated), and block the unauthenticated wallet setup/unlock routes at the reverse-proxy layer. The official statement notes that no successful takeover via this round of probing has been reported yet. Independent verification: CryptoSlate (2026-09-13), using the same framing—targeting nodes that were manually re-exposed. 2.4.4 (released around 9/7) addresses this path; routing-control changes merged around 9/11 require remote access to be explicitly enabled, while the default remains to keep the LND/Core Lightning external interfaces closed. Still self-check any custom reverse proxy. The figure is a schematic/AI-generated image, not an official console screenshot. Data as of: BTCPay blog around 2026-09-08; CryptoSlate 2026-09-13.
