Unciphered offered to hack the wallet of ex-CTO Ripple with 7000 BTC

Digital asset recovery firm Unciphered has offered to unlock a wallet belonging to former Ripple CTO Stefan Thomas in an open letter . It stores 7002 BTC (~$244 million at the time of writing).

In 2021, Thomas spoke about losing access to the address. According to the programmer, he lost the sheet with the password for the IronKey hardware wallet several years ago - there were only two attempts left to enter the password.

According to Unciphered, the company's employees have developed a method for hacking equipment and accessing Bitcoin keys. Technology magazine Wired reported that the firm was able to access data on a similar IronKey after "200 trillion attempts" to bypass the limit on the number of incorrect passwords.

“It’s difficult to hack into secure equipment. Hacking a FIPS-140-2 Level 3 compliant device (such as your IronKey) is borderline impossible,” the company said.

However, Unciphered assured that they would be able to hack the wallet of the ex-CTO of Ripple, and promised to provide evidence of the process.

Let us remind you that in January 2021, a Reddit user restored access to a wallet with 127 BTC, lost several years ago.

Later it became known that a resident of South Africa lost access to a wallet with 20 BTC mined 10 years ago.
