In the incident, a forged cross-chain message breached Hyperbridge’s Ethereum Token Gateway, minting about 1 billion uncollateralized bridged DOT. The reported losses were revised from about $237,000 to roughly $2.5 million, including the incentive pool (ETH/Base/BNB/Arbitrum). The protocol only recovered after being rebuilt in mid-June.

These 100,000 DOT are just part of what’s been recovered; efforts are ongoing. An exchange/platform freezing stolen funds first and returning them through legal channels is a lot more meaningful than just saying it’s “cooperating with the investigation.”
