🚨 Electrum $Bitcoin Wallet Vulnerability Could Put User Funds at Risk
A security flaw in the Electrum Bitcoin wallet allowed malicious servers to manipulate pending transactions, potentially redirecting users’ funds to attackers when they attempted to increase transaction fees using Replace-by-Fee (RBF).
Electrum developers disclosed the vulnerability and released version 4.8.3 on October 24, introducing signature verification for unconfirmed transactions. Developers confirmed that at least one theft had occurred, although the identities of the attackers and the total amount stolen remain undisclosed.
⚠️ What Users Should Know: 🔹 Older wallet versions may remain vulnerable when connected to malicious servers. 🔹 Users should upgrade to Electrum 4.8.3 or later. 🔹 Always verify the recipient address and transaction amount before signing. 🔹 Users connected exclusively to trusted servers, including self-hosted servers, were not affected by this attack.
🔐 Security Reminder: Keep your Bitcoin wallet updated and carefully review every transaction before approving it.
