My girl friend who does trading threw me a screenshot last night and asked me one thing:
$STRAX — is this moving with the sector, or is it just going crazy on its own?
After I looked at it, my feeling was that it’s more like the fringes of a narrative are resonating, not like a single point exploding out of nowhere.
$STRAX is currently trading at $0.0101 in the spot market, up 12.12% over the past 24h. Its high/low are $0.01089 / $0.00859.
This move isn’t exactly gentle, but it’s also not to the point of feeling out of control.
More importantly, it’s pushing into the rankings driven by spot climbing up. In the last 24h, spot volume is only $1.40M, with 21,648 trades. It looks like lots of small orders pushing it—not that kind of huge volume that makes your scalp go numb at a glance.
When I saw it on the subway today after work, the thought that popped into my head wasn’t “can I chase it,” but “why, of all times, is it happening right now?”
To be honest, when an old-name coin suddenly moves, many times it’s not because it’s suddenly that strong—it's because the market is looking for a “shell” that can accommodate some old narrative.
Recently, capital toward things like “old husband chains, old infrastructure, and technical history they can talk about” clearly isn’t as dismissive as before.
Coins like
$STRAX are usually as quiet as my dog Zozo lying beside the router. Today, getting into the front rows of the spot gainers list feels more like someone casually tapped this kind of narrative.
Still, I’m choosing to watch from the sidelines.
Because the biggest fear with coins like this isn’t that it rises too fast—it’s structural emptiness.
In the data you gave me, the spot volume isn’t that big. On the derivatives side, the funding rate is still +0.0000%, which suggests the derivatives market hasn’t shown a consistent directional push—at least not a state where longs are crowding in and getting overheated.
If both derivative trading volume and open interest also start rising together, then I’d be more willing to treat it as a decent continuation wave.
Right now it feels more like sentiment got there first, and the follow-through hasn’t fully caught up yet.
So I won’t chase it.
Either wait for it to pull back and still hold steady, or wait until the contracts side genuinely starts cooperating.
Otherwise, from this position it looks lively, but holding it would be exhausting.
If I lose, don’t cue me. If I profit, buy me a cup of coffee.
