🚨 HISTORIC WEEK AT B3: IBOVESPA PLUNGES 18.12% — WORST RESULT SINCE MARCH 2020!
The Brazilian stock exchange ended this Friday (10/30) its fifth consecutive session of losses. It was the Ibovespa’s worst week since March 2020, when, at the height of the pandemic, the index fell 18.88% in a single week.
📉 The scale of the adjustment:
- Ibovespa: -18.12% for the week, at 167,921.80 points.
- Spot dollar: +9.04% for the week, closing at R$ 5,4443.
- October: Ibovespa is down 9.88%.
- Over the five losing sessions, the index shed approximately 37,200 points.
🇧🇷 What caused the turmoil?
The election results prompted a sharp revision of investor expectations. Uncertainty over fiscal policy, the trajectory of public debt, and the choice of the economic team heightened caution toward Brazilian assets.
The unfavorable external environment, with international stock markets falling, added to the pressure on the market.
⛏️ VALE: AN IMPORTANT COUNTERPOINT
Even on a down day for the stock market, VALE3 rose 3.28% on Friday. With an approximately 9.35% weighting in the Ibovespa, the stock helped cushion the index’s decline that day.
Assessments of the Q3 2026 results varied: BB Investimentos considered the figures in line with its estimates, while other analyses highlighted pressures on the iron ore business, costs, and net income.
At the other end, USIM5 fell 8.59%, after results came in below market expectations.
📊 The significance of this week goes beyond five losing sessions: it was the worst week for the Brazilian stock market since March 2020. At that time, the decline reached 18.88%, slightly more than the 18.12% recorded now.
Now the question is: what do you expect next week? A recovery after the sharp adjustment, or continued pressure on Brazilian assets?
