📊 The proposal taking shape at the border
Venezuela’s ambassador to Colombia, Ramón Orlando Maniglia, put forward an idea that has been circulating for years in conversations among merchants and transport operators: keeping the border crossings between the two countries open around the clock. The stated aim is to speed up cross-border transit and ensure continuity in the area’s economic integration.
The diplomat was clear about one thing: none of this can move forward without a comprehensive security plan for the international bridges. According to him, talks have already been held with Colombia’s defense minister, Jorge Eduardo Mora, to develop the surveillance strategies that would make a permanent opening viable. He also took the opportunity to invite Colombian businesspeople to invest in Venezuela and to stress the importance of maintaining the social and historical ties between the two peoples.
