Bitcoin: what’s happening with the main cryptocurrency in the summer of 2026
In short: Bitcoin is currently trading around $64,000–65,000—which is almost half of its all-time high of $126,000 set in October 2025. As of July 26, the price was about $64,318. The year started much more upbeat—back in January the coin was trading above $93,000—but then a prolonged pullback set in.
Why did Bitcoin fall?
The main culprit is institutional money. Since 2024, Bitcoin’s price has depended increasingly less on the halving (the reduction of miners’ rewards) and more on inflows and outflows in exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The logic is simple: when ETFs buy, the price rises regardless of mining volumes; when they sell, the price falls regardless of post-halving supply constraints.
