Rio Tinto posts strong profit and cash flow growth in the first half of 2026
📈 Rio Tinto reported H1 2026 revenue of USD 31.03 billion, up 15% year over year, while underlying EBITDA rose 28% to USD 14.83 billion and underlying earnings increased 43% to USD 6.85 billion.
💰 Free cash flow climbed 75% to USD 3.83 billion, allowing the company to raise its interim dividend by 43% to USD 2.11 per share, representing a total payout of approximately USD 3.4 billion.
⛏️ Copper was the main growth driver, with segment EBITDA surging 84% to USD 5.7 billion. Copper, aluminium and lithium now contribute more than half of underlying EBITDA, indicating a gradual reduction in Rio Tinto’s dependence on iron ore.
⚖️ The results were supported by commodity prices, production growth and productivity improvements. Investors may still monitor pressure on iron ore earnings, higher capital spending and the execution of major projects during the second half of the year.
