I nearly became a victim of a new P2P method that everyone should know about and keep an eye on.
The seller told me that after KYC, they would create an IBAN “in my name,” but the IBAN was NOT my personal bank account. They asked me to:
✅ Send money to this IBAN
✅ Put MY OWN NAME as the beneficiary/account holder name
That immediately set off alarm bells.
Here’s why I refused:
If the transaction goes wrong, I could end up with bank proof showing that I transferred money using my own name, but the IBAN in reality doesn’t correspond to any of my bank accounts. If the seller then claims they never received the funds or disputes the transaction, you might have a very hard time proving what happened.
I canceled the transaction right away because I only send money to:
My own verified bank account, or
The verified bank account of the P2P merchant exactly as it appears on the platform.
⚠️ Always check before sending money.
Don’t let anyone pressure you.
If something seems unusual, cancel the order.
Contact the exchange support if you’re unsure.
