India attracts $511.5 million in FDI after easing rules for investors from neighboring countries
๐ฎ๐ณ As of August 20, India had received 29 FDI proposals worth about $511.5 million, covering IT, AI, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, data centres and transport services.
๐ Under the new framework, investments involving beneficial ownership from countries sharing a land border with India can qualify for the automatic route if the ownership stake does not exceed 10% and does not confer control. Previously, even small stakes required government approval.
๐ญ The move indicates that New Delhi is selectively opening access to foreign capital for technology and manufacturing while retaining scrutiny over sensitive sectors and larger investments.
๐ The $511.5 million amount remains modest relative to Indiaโs overall FDI inflows, but the number of proposals received within the first few months suggests the revised policy is beginning to have a tangible effect.
