The copycat season is here—but did you buy the right one?
Bitcoin has surged to 85,000, but over the past 30 days, the biggest movers were ZEC (+86%) and HYPE (+53%). Meanwhile, BTC and ETH are trading in a range.
This isn’t a fluke. Delphi Digital’s latest analysis defines the current market as—“a rotation in selected coins,” not a broad-based rally where everything goes up.
What does that mean?
In past copycat seasons, it was a “little bit for everyone” situation: once the large-cap coins started rising (BTC), ETH would follow; then the broader market’s large-cap alts would lift, and finally the small-cap frenzy would kick off. But this time is different. Capital is highly concentrated in a handful of strong assets, along with on-chain, high-volatility speculative opportunities. BTC, ETH, and SOL haven’t broken out in sync.
A day when everything you buy keeps going up hasn’t arrived—for now.
The more critical question is: where does the money come from?
Delphi’s assessment is cautious. Some of the buying may simply be crypto investors returning after having exited earlier—not truly fresh external capital. FOMO and Robinhood Chain do reach users outside the crypto circle, but whether this asset class has actually attracted a clear trend of incremental new money is still unproven.
What signal counts as confirmation?
If BTC, ETH, and SOL can further break through, it would suggest a broader wave of new capital is entering. If the rally continues to concentrate in only a few assets, then this round of price action is likely closer to a rotation of existing capital.
Another direction worth watching: tokenized stocks on-chain.
On Robinhood Chain, the value of tokenized assets grew from $11.9 million in early July to $149 million in early September, with 77% coming from stock tokens. On Solana as well, new ways of building around stocks and meme coins are starting to appear.
In the short term, there’s a lot of speculation in all of this. But in the long term, crypto infrastructure is shifting from “trading crypto assets” to “trading everything with crypto infrastructure.”
And one last, candid point:
The keyword for this market isn’t “beta”—it’s differentiation. Finding the assets that are rising fastest is certainly important, but once prices have already run, who will still be willing to buy, and where the money is coming from, is the real variable that determines how far this rally can go.
