Bitcoin's most-watched fork since 2017 just moved from proposal to rollout. Paul Sztorc's eCash (ECX) chain finished its Alpha rehearsal (Aug 23) and Beta (Sept 20) — the permanent 1:1 snapshot lands Oct 31 at ~block 973,728, the 18th anniversary of Satoshi's whitepaper.

📌 The airdrop mechanics — the practical part:
• Hold BTC in a wallet where YOU control the keys at the snapshot → you get ECX 1:1. 1 BTC → 1 ECX.
• Your BTC is untouched. eCash is a separate chain that copies the ledger; it does not move yours.
• Custody is the catch: ETF prospectuses like IBIT permanently waive fork rights. If you want the claim, self-custody before the snapshot is the only reliable path.

⚙️ What the fork actually ships:
• Drivechains (BIP300/301) activate at genesis — 7 sidechains launch: Thunder (payments), zSide (privacy), Truthcoin (prediction markets), CoinShift (DEX), BitAssets, BitNames, Photon (quantum-resistant).
• Same SHA-256d mining, one-time difficulty reset — expect volatile early hashrate.
• Opt-in replay protection via nLockTime. Don't transact blindly across the two chains.

⚠️ The controversy + the real risks:
• ~500K of Satoshi's dormant ECX (Patoshi coins) get reassigned to investors and devs — critics call it theft, backers call it funding without an ICO.
• Name collision: the existing eCash (XEC) is a different project. ECX ≠ XEC.
• Scammers move fast: no legit claim needs your seed phrase or private key. Any "claim site" asking for them is a scam.

🎯 Bottom line: this is a free but risky claim — not free money. Snapshot Oct 31, check your exchange's distribution policy early, keep keys self-custodied, and never import keys into unknown coin splitters.
