River Financial decided to sue Blockstream Services Canada over unpaid amounts from a mining hosting deal. The total comes to around 6 point 7 million dollars after they canceled the contract in late 2024. There was a termination agreement that covered prepaid fees and an early exit penalty with monthly payments starting the next year.

Payments happened for a bit then stopped around March of 2026. River filed in federal court in Northern California once it became clear nothing more was coming. It feels like the situation got messier than expected once details started coming out.

Blockstream Corp itself says they spun off the US and Canada mining side so they are probably not the defendant here. The person who signed for the Canadian entity has a prior fraud conviction which adds another layer. A magistrate judge already recused himself and the case got reassigned. There was also a big breach on the Liquid Network not long ago. I am not totally sure how all these pieces fit together yet. Hosting deals only work if the other side is solid. The money figure keeps coming up but nothing is settled at this point.

Ethereum has a big upgrade lined up called Glamsterdam.
The foundation set it for the Sepolia testnet on October 6 2026 at that specific epoch. It comes after Fusaka and some researchers think it ranks among the larger forks they have done so far.

It pulls together stuff from Amsterdam on the execution side and Gloas on the consensus side. The idea is to get the main layer moving faster while keeping costs down and making it hold up better over time.

One part removes the need for outside services that handle block building. Builders just lock in what they offer and the system handles payments without extra trust steps. Validators also get a bit more room to check things through.

Another change lets transactions list the data they touch ahead of time. That opens the door to running some of them side by side instead of one after another. It looks like it could lift how much the chain handles at once and might speed up getting new nodes caught up too.

Gas costs are shifting as well so they line up more closely with real work on execution and keeping the state from ballooning. That should help slow down unnecessary growth in the database.

Testing starts on Sepolia then moves to Hoodi before any mainnet push which is aimed at late 2026. Node operators will need to update both types of clients ahead of time or it will not go smoothly.

After the Hegota fork next year this could be the last regular style upgrade before things move toward more advanced proof systems. It seems unclear though whether the base layer will end up matching the speed of its own layer twos in the

The crypto tax drama in South Korea is back. And this time, it's coming from INSIDE the ruling party.

*What happened:*

Senior lawmaker *Rep. Min Byung-duk* (DPK Policy Committee) yesterday at EastPoint Seoul 2026 said:

> "It's not right to start taxation when the basic law has yet to be established."

He wants the *22% crypto tax* scheduled for *Jan 1, 2027* to be DELAYED until after the *Digital Asset Basic Act* passes. f154

*Why he says the system isn't ready:*

1. *Invisible Overseas Profits:* Korea can't track money on Binance, Bybit etc. The global data-sharing system *CARF* first exchange only starts in 2027-2028. UAE, Seychelles, HK, Singapore - where most Korean traders use - won't share until 2028, US until 2029. So only domestic traders would get taxed.
2. *Taxed even when you lose:* No loss carryforward system. You could profit 10M won one year, lose 10M next year, still pay tax on first year.
3. *No acquisition cost rule:* How to calculate your buy price? Still unclear. 7873

*The Split:*
- *Ruling party + Opposition:* Both now want delay. Opposition even proposed pushing it to *2030*.
- *Finance Minister Lee Hyoung-il:* Says "Go ahead as planned." Claims 85% of investors hold less than 5M won ($3,670) so with 2.5M won basic deduction, most pay nothing. f154

A petition to delay has already crossed *50,000 signatures* for parliamentary review.

*My Take:* This is the 4th delay attempt. Korea wants to tax crypto like stocks (20% + 2% local = 22% over 2.5M won gain) but without stock-like rules for tracking and losses, it will just push traders offshore.
