My AI agent planned a 2:1 trade. The exit button had other plans.
LINK long autopsy, real fills:
🤖 Plan (placed by my Hermes agent, 20x isolated): • Entry limit 13.150, filled as maker • Stop 12.950 (risk ≈ $1.90) • Take-profit 13.550 (reward ≈ $3.80) • Size 9.5 LINK ≈ $125 notional, ~$6.25 margin
😬 What actually happened: • Closed at market 13.238, 56 minutes in • Gross +$0.84, fees ≈ $0.09 → net ≈ +$0.75 • That's 0.44R on a trade built for 2R • Fees ate ~10% of the win. Taker exit cost 3x the maker entry.
📈 The painful part: • Stop at 12.950 never came close. Low after entry: 13.091 • Price traded through the 13.550 TP about 12 hours later • 24h high 14.215, now ~13.98 (+13.6% on the day) • Holding the plan = +$3.80. Taking the itch = +$0.75
🧮 The math I keep relearning: With a 2:1 plan you only need to win >33% to break even. Cut winners at 0.44R while losers still cost 1R, and break-even jumps to ~69%. Same entries, same "edge", completely different system.
The agent's order logic was fine. The weak link was the human with a close button.
Rule going forward: once the bracket is set, the exit belongs to the bracket. Moving the stop to break-even is allowed. Grabbing crumbs isn't.
Do you let your stops and TPs do the work, or do you still babysit every trade?
This week's theme is "Keeps AI Agents in Check", and today's 7-letter word is exactly what I'd put on any bot that touches my wallet. 🤖🔒
No spoilers, but my path went: 🟨🟨🟨🟨 → 🟩🟩🟨🟨 → 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
Tip if you're stuck: think about what should happen when an agent runs too long or goes quiet. ⏱️

5 wins + a $50 trade gets you a share of the 10,000 USDC pool. Ends Sep 27.
I was right about $zec . The liquidation engine didn't care.
My week in futures, real fills: • BTC long 77,000 → 77,500.9: +$2.50 • ETH short 2,557 → 2,576: -$3.05 • ZEC short 1,441.12 → 1,431.32: +$2.82 • ZEC short again at 1,510 (0.233 ZEC, ~$352 notional)
That last one. Sep 21 the wick went to 1,573. I got force-closed at 1,567.28. Move against me: 3.8%. Loss: -$13.35 PnL + -$4.28 liquidation (insurance clear) fee = -$17.62.
Where did ZEC close that same day? 1,470.95. Below my entry. The short would have been +$9.10. Right direction. Wrong survival.
The math I skipped: • Losing ~$17.6 of margin on a 3.8% move = roughly 20x effective leverage • At 20x, liquidation sits ~5% away minus maintenance margin, so a normal ZEC day kills you • ZEC's daily range this week: 1,428-1,534, 1,443-1,573, 1,445-1,653. Every single day moved 7-14% high to low • The liquidation fee alone was 24% of the total loss. That's a tax on not having a stop
Scoreboard: 2 wins, 1 small loss, 1 liquidation. 50% win rate. Net realized: -$15.34. Win rate is a vanity metric when one trade wipes out the other three 7x over.
Rule going forward: leverage = 1 / (daily range × 2). ZEC ranging ~10% a day → max ~5x. At 5x, that same 1,573 wick is a -$14.68 paper drawdown I'd still be sitting through, not a funeral.
Tiny size, expensive lesson. Better to pay it at $17 than at $1,700.
How do you size leverage on coins that swing 10% a day, fixed number or tied to volatility?
Sep 12: Longed STAR at 0.0559, sold at 0.0598. +$66. Felt like a genius. 🧠
Sep 15: Bought again at 0.0449. It dipped, so I averaged down at 0.0429. Classic.
Sep 16, 03:42: Cut the loss at 0.0403. -$183. Painful, but the right move.
Sep 16, 04:08: 26 minutes later I jumped straight back in, long at 0.0412 with ~10x. Revenge trade. 😤
Sep 17: STAR hit 0.0371. Liquidated. -$75 more. 💀
Total damage on $STAR : about -$193 including fees and funding, after starting the week +$66.
What actually killed me wasn't the coin, it was the 26 minutes: ❌ Averaging down a falling futures position ❌ Re-entering right after a stop-out, just to "win it back" ❌ 10x on a small cap that can move 10% while you sleep
The stop-loss at 0.0403 was the one good decision. Then I undid it.
New rule: after a stopped-out trade, no re-entry on the same coin for 24h. 🔒
Anyone else been got by the revenge trade? Tell me I'm not alone 👇
Real talk though: before you hand a bot real funds, set spend limits, whitelist the pairs it can touch, and start with money you'd be fine losing to a bug. Agents don't get tired, but they also don't get nervous. That's a feature AND a bug.
Anyone else here running AI agents on their account? What's the first guardrail you set? 👇
$BICO Every time I buy #BICO, the price says "oh, he's here" and goes down another step. At this point I'm not an investor, I'm a bad omen. If #BICO ever pumps, just know it's because I finally looked away.📉🧍 😅
