🚀 BULLISH: SK hynix just posted the biggest quarter in memory chip history, with revenue topping ₩100 trillion for the first time.
Q3 revenue hit ₩104.6 trillion, about $78 billion, up 32% from the prior quarter and 328% from a year ago. Operating profit reached ₩83.3 trillion, about $62.8 billion, at an 80% margin, a record, with net profit at ₩39.8 trillion. Both revenue and profit beat Wall Street forecasts of roughly ₩98 trillion and ₩77 trillion.
The outlook is just as striking. Long-term agreements with 14 customers cover more than half of its 2027 and 2028 capacity. CEO Kwak Noh-jung said that, counting agreements already secured and demand under active discussion, its DRAM and HBM output is effectively sold out through 2029. The company also expects memory demand to outrun supply through 2030, because advanced processes and the long lead times for building new fabs limit how fast supply can respond.
It's also returning cash. SK hynix plans roughly ₩100 trillion in shareholder returns this year, partly from gains on its Kioxia investment, and expects HBM4 to overtake HBM3E in volume and revenue next quarter.
Yet the market was unmoved. Seoul shares fell about 7.1% on Friday as Alphabet's AI spending shock rattled chip stocks across Asia, a reminder that blowout earnings can't always beat fear about how long the boom lasts.
